Cheltenham Creeps Closer.
Saturday 14th. A really good days racing ahead of us with very competitive Saturday racing at Ascot, Haydock and Wincanton, we will leave the AW dashes and bunch finishes to those that follow them. Yesterday I put up BROADWAY BUFFALO in the Grand National trial and advised at taking the 8/1 and once again I can see unfortunately Pricewise agrees, I say unfortunately as he has been woofully out of form and could break his own record run of 50 losers, gosh I got stick after 4 or 5 last week, but I do genuinely feel for you punters as a lot find it difficult to be disciplined and money is still very tight at the the moment.
Today I am prepared to give AT FISHERS CROSS one last chance, if he does come back to form he has lbs to spare over the rest and this is certainly his last chance before Cheltenham. Neil Mulholland has had a slower than ideal start to his season , but he runs CAROLES DESTRIER and has made the eye catching booking of Barry Geraghty and the 2/1 looks on the big side to me. My final selection on ANDY BELLs clients email is the Philip Hobbs trained WAIT FOR ME. He is trading at 13/2 although I am told the stable has seen him scorch up the gallops and he has been galloping with previous winners and better, I advise an EW bet as he is making his race course debut.
Instead of an ew trixie on the three, I decide on an ew double on CAROLES DESTRIER and WAIT FOR ME as AT FISHERS CROSS has to prove his wellbeing.
My LATE SERVICE has also been having a very good month and I also email them out three bets.
RACING EUROPE comes from my new Ellison contact as a strong ew bet and with Will Kennedy who is unbeaten on him on board I advise an ew bet at 9/1.
Lastly and by no means least I have advised my LATE SERVICE clients to take ON the 1/2 Favourite TEAFORTHREE in the Hunter Chase. The reasons being is he has to run today to qualify for the Cheltenham Hunter Chase where he is a ridiculously short price of 11/4, so it’s not the plan and also he had a hardish race only eight days ago. We are going for a double pronged assault on him with MAJOR MALARKEY ew at 8/1 and straight from the point field TEMPLE GRANDIN ew at 16/1.
The racing day starts with the Nicky Henderson unbeaten TOP NOTCH and he didn’t disappoint as he saunters in and makes it five on the trot, although personally I think he will swerve Cheltenham as Nicky Henderson already has a very strong hand in the triumph hurdle in favour of Aintree or Ireland.
AT FISHERS CROSS is now officially off my radar as he jumps as if he is an injured horse and certainly didn’t finish his race of today as a sound horse should.
After a less than ideal start RACING EUROPE is travelling like the most likely winner three out, but unfortunately doesn’t quite get home, but does get us a place and a nice profit.
Our 2/1 looks a steal as CAROLES DESTRIER goes off at a very well backed 5/4 and three out I think we are beaten, Barry Geraghty fortunately has different ideas and gets to him and he flies and wins by a very easy eight lengths in doing so getting us a very nice winner and setting us up with a very nice ew double chance in the process.
A cruel game just after a good winner and just as BROADWAY BUFFALO is working his way through the field he comes down with our anti-post vouchers.
How quietly is James Best sitting on WAIT FOR ME, I am looking to see what’s coming out of the pack at him and the simple answer is nothing at all and oi oi we win very easily landing us a very nice 13/2 winner and more importantly, well in monetary terms anyway a very nice double.
To finish off our day how close were we on our LATE SERVICEs information and final bet of the day on our Hunter Chase, we got the 1/2 Favourite well beaten and were so close to landing our 16/1 shot with TEMPLE GRANDIN who jumped perfectly all the way round and messed up the last to finish a clear second. A small profit but once again we prove that our Hunter Chase information is second to none. Anybody that loves Hunter Chasers or just winning money now it’s really time to join as we now have a run off them for two months.
A brilliant day for us all as i have a great winning day for my ANDY BELLs clients and a small one on the LATE SERVICE.
Sunday 15th. Looking at my figures this morning I am well happy with yesterday’s work as we made over 40 points profit for my ANDY BELLs clients and were very close hitting a 10/1 and a 16/1 place for the LATE SERVICE. Both services are happily sitting 4th and 5th in the table with combined profits of over 85 points.
Nothing much happening today I’m going to have a quiet one at home with the family and maybe, just maybe some gardening. Although I must admit yesterday’s profits are burning a lunchtime hole in my pocket.
Our first bet of the day is across the water at Naven in the Novice chase where we have the very short priced favourite GILGAMBOA who’s jumping fell apart last time and at 1/2 he needs taking on and I email out that we do so with BISHOPS ROAD ew at 10/1.
I get a huge word for the Charlie Longsden trained OUR KAEMPFER in the first at Market Rasen who is trading at 6/4, as I say in my email if he brings his grade 2 bumper form to the party they won’t see which way he has gone.
The late service clients are next and I email out GRIMLEY GIRL in the next at Market Rasen as I’m told that this ex pointer has really come to hand since she won at Fakenham as she couldn’t quite lead in the next two big handicaps and today there is no obvious front runners to take her on and she stays long than the mothering law. She is trading at 9/4 and I know she is going to be smashed up in the betting so I ensure I take the price personally and advise likewise, also, naughty I know, as I have put OUR KAEMPFER up on my ANDY BELLs service but the word I have is so strong I slip him in a double with GRIMLEY GIRL on my LATE SERVICE also.
I do settle for a quiet Sunday at home and do avoid any gardening chores as well in favour of watching the days racing.
OUR KAEMPFER certainly brings his “a” game to the party as we had hoped and gives us a lovely start to the day a win on ANDY BELLs service and setting up a possible double on the LATE SERVICE.
BISHOPS ROAD is pulled out of the race on a self certificate, which is very unfortunate as in my view the race was in fact there for the taking as GILGAMBOA at 1/2 does get beaten in a very slow time.
Next and finally the LATE SERVICES day is all dependent on GRIMLEY GIRL and she certainly doesn’t let us down as she looks beaten at least twice during the race and ultimately wins easily going away and in the process gives the LATE SERVICE a really nice winning day with a double landed.
Another very good day with both the services and clients winning and this time it’s the LATE SERVICE who has a very nice winning double and ANDY BELLS who have made a small profit, all fair in love and peace.
Monday 16th. It’s a very nice and refreshing thought to wake up this morning to both my services combined surpassing the 100 points profit barrier already this month and its a nice and even split between the two as both are just over 50 points up each.
No time to rest on our laurels we need to keep busy and working hard to find these winners. Hopefully Rose Dobbin can supply us with one today. I watched he VINNY GAMBINIs race last time and he was well out of his ground turning for home and absolutely flew home to finish third. He is going to be ridden up with the pace today. At 3/1 I think he is a decent bet to win today. I also suggest backing CATCHIN TIME at Lingfield today who is on a three timer. Lingfields easier track should hold no demons for him today after his win at Leicester in heavy last time, with both emailed out to my ANDY BELLs clients I head into town to meet the lads as I know the rest of the week I am either busy or away racing. I am not planning on a mad one, but your guess is as good as mine.
Once again the disabled Thomas is the centre of attraction as this time we had a drunk collapse in there and a queue had formed outside and the funny part was the girls climbing over his motorised wheel chair to get to him. I don’t know whether it was alcohol or illness but he was certainly starry eyed. Whatever it was it didn’t stop him getting to the bar for another beer, good of him I say.
VINNYS GAMINI is officially as slow as the dispersing of the earlier queue at the disabled Thomas and trails in a disappointing fourth and thankfully CATCHIN TIME was a quick as him getting back to the bar and wins very nicely and quickly turning our day round into a winning one.
Tuesday 17th. I’m like an excited kiddie on his birthday this morning waiting for the postman as my first form books for Cheltenham should be arriving.
Sure enough they are here and now the countdown really does begin. I wonder whether I will get a chance to gain revenge on the Dirty Don this year, if I do I will also insist on an additional side bet on who wins each day as I won three out of the four days making a profit in each and only ultimately lost out to his 25/1 fluke on day two.
Anyway today is paramount and the Pipe team are not only running out of options for Dell’arca but also time if he is going to the festival. If they think he is worth persevering with I am also prepared to give him one final shot and email him out as a win bet at 15/8.
As he is my only bet of the day I can get busy with my Wetherby’s form books.
Our monies went down the drain with DELL’ ARCAs Cheltenham hopes as the only way he will run there now is if the owners fancy a day out.
Wednesday 18th. It’s on the 10-17 rattler up to Donny this morning and I am going to have two bets here ITS A STING and the Hunter Chaser PAINT THE CLOUDS who is a shade odds on at 8/13 but in my opinion should be at least 1/3.
I am surprised at how quiet it is here today, but I tend to forget it is a mid February weekday. The owners and trainers bar is virtually empty and the normally sort after food is in danger of being pig fodder this evening.
I find a little solace in the stew after we are beaten on ITS A STING by the unfancied and rag of the field at 50/1. Sometimes when this happens I just think what chance have we especially when the trainer is in shock and think what chance have we.
Others must have cotton on to PAINT THE CLOUDS as he does finally get backed and goes off at 1/2, still not short enough in my opinion and does exactly what I expected and bolts up. As I’ve said before sometimes you do get very good value with a few odds on shots.
Thursday 19th. I have arranged to meet a couple of contacts at Huntingdon today and after looking at the cards with four races only having four runners I wish I could cry off.
I get a very early mark for WINTER QUEEN who runs at Chelmsford tonight in the colours of the boys in blue. Defeat last time was put down to being to keen and fresh during her race that time, so at 7/4 I advise my clients to rake it and back her.
Just before I set off I get a nod from my new contact telling me that RED INCA is a cracking ew bet at 13/2 and is going to be very well punted. I quickly email this information out to my LATE SERVICE clients and leave just after 11am on my own as poor old Mr Jolly is very poorly and isn’t up to leaving his house let lone a days racing.
I arrive to a cold and forecast rainy day, without a bet to keep me warm. The Colonel has wisely decided not to join me today, so I just have the one meet and then I’m going to hit the road. Steve calls me to say that he has just had a huge word for the Nick Alexander trained BRACING who runs at Musselburgh ridden by his son and is trading at 11/4, I just pop into the press office to bum their Wi-fi and make him mine and ANDY BELLs punters final bet of the day.
My meeting goes very well and hopefully I have secured a new string to our bow for the rest of the jumps season and the future.
RED INCA is first up and has been smashed off the boards and goes off at 7/2 making our 13/2 look huge and turning for home we are a cert to get a place and looks like winning, he doesn’t beat the very well handicapped bottom weight but does get us a place and a small profit.
I have left Huntingdon two races before the end so I can stop in Newmarket to watch the BRACING race, coming round the top bend I wish I hadn’t bothered has Kit is cut up on BRACING as he attempts to take the ambitious route up the inside and loses all momentum and quickly falls to the rear. Two out he is trading at 500/1 briefly in running and somehow young Kit finds a new lease of life in what looked a spent force and BRACING gets up bang on the line in a three way photo. After that I need a quick beer in the Wagon and Horses and head homewards in the knowledge that once again both of my services are once again winning ones today whatever happens later at Chelmsford.
Friday 20th. WINTER QUEEN ran a stinker at Chelmsford last night and beat only one home, maybe she isn’t as good as her homework and breeding suggests.
Early doors I email out the AP ridden MASTER MALT who attracted the attention of the stewards last time as he was seen to be running on without being fully extended. Also at 10/1 ew WIZARDS BRIDGE looks a big price as long as he can cope with his penalty and can nick us a place and finally on the aw FAB LOLLY is expected to go very close after her seasonal run at Wolverhampton.
Until next week be good and be very lucky.
Back next Saturday.
