I’m sure you have heard of the infamous gangster Ben Seigel often known as Bugsy by those of a low life expectancy. He formed a partnership with Meyer Lansky and Lucky Luciano called Murder Incorporated and ran illegal gambling across North America.
In the forties he moved to L.A. to set up operations on the West Coast and while on a drive through the Nevada Desert he had this dream of building a city based on gambling and entertainment.
Ben borrowed 1 million dollars from the Mafia to build the Flamingo Hotel and casino however by the time the complex was completed the debt rose to about 6 million.
When the Flamingo opened it was a total disaster losing money hand over fist. The mob thinking Seigel had been skimming off the top had him gunned down while at his girlfriends home in Hollywood.
By the time we get to 1950 Las Vegas as we know it today was starting to take off and for those people who had invested in shares purchased off Ben Siegel were reaping the rewards.
The 6 million given to build the Flamingo in 1946 has to the current day returned over 400 billion and the vision of Ben Siegel will live forever.
These guys might have been gangsters but they also had their good side by giving untold thousands to charity and help finance the American war effort during World War two. In fact during recent revelations regarding Britains largest bank I would say they were better people than most current politicians and bankers.
Now the reason I have highlighted the Vegas story is quite simple as it shows you that you must never be put off by losing runs when investing or gambling as can you imagine if the Mafia money men had pulled the plug on Vegas it would still be just another desert.
In more recent times another fact you might not be aware of is that two of the most influential tipsters are Hugh Taylor of ATR who has had a losing run of over 50 and Tom Segal (pricewise) who has had a run of over 40 losers but they are both still quality tipsters.
Even the greatest jockey of all time A.P. who has just announced his retirement once had 21 losing rides on the bounce. So if you can’t handle losing runs I’m afraid your in the wrong game.
Mind you for those of you who only want short losing runs I’m about to put a proposal to Betfan regarding my 80% place, 20% win system which I guarantee can make anyone that follows my guidelines a 2nd income. The only thing is it won’t be cheap but as they say you get what you pay for.
Regarding today’s free tip Howies Hottie goes in the lucky last at Lingfield the 4.45. It’s an apprentice handicap over the mile and the selection is Club House who will be ridden by the promising Milly Naseb. The gelding gets in here off bottom weight and should be right in the mix.

Another winner last week with Trimoulet WERE YOU ON?
ARTIFICIAL SURFACES
Random Success trainer R.Charlton – Went well after a long break and now she has got rid of the cobwebs she should soon be winning.
Beach Bar trainer W.Knight – Led too close home last time and perhaps slight drop in trip will help.
Ballista trainer T.Dascombe – Looked all over the winner at Lingfield until fading close home. Might be worth a try at 5 furlongs.
Stun Gun trainer D.Shaw – Well backed at Southwell yesterday and stayed on into 3rd. With a quicker start or longer trip he should be right in the firing line next time.
JUMPERS
Jollys Cracked It trainer H.Fry – Stayed on well from the back in the big handicap hurdle at Newbury last Saturday and looks one to watch out for.
Soll trainer D.Pipe – Won a stayers chase last week and has not been with top connections that long. Pipe can find improvement and this could be a Grand National horse.
Back next Wednesday have a good week and be lucky.
