Howard’s Eye-Catchers

September 6, 2017 By admin Leave a Comment

The Summer transfer window has closed with the Premier league clubs spending billions and breaking all previous records however one wonders how much longer this trend can continue until the TV money bubble bursts.

Some clubs were happy with their buys where others were left fuming as they could not secure their targets such as Manchester Cities pursuit of Alexi Sanchez just because Arsenal couldn’t persuade Lemar to join them from Monaco. Mind you anyone who believes that the Gunners offered £92 million for the French lad needs their bumps feeling. As I tell the World don’t believe everything you hear or read in the media.

Did you watch the two England World Cup qualifiers and were you impressed? Well I have to say I know plenty of amateur teams down the local park could have beaten Malta and as for the match at Wembley Monday night the only one who shows true skill was Marcus Rashford.

I see the B.H.A. are looking at employing professional paid stewards at long last. This reminds me of the story of when John Francome was awarded a race which was taken away from his mate Steve Smith-Eccles for an alleged bump after the last hurdle. As Smith-Eccles left the stewards room he was heard to say to the chairman of the stewards he must be bloody blind to which the chairman replied what did you say? And as the angry jockey left the room he responded in a whisper bloody deaf too.

It is however a step in the right direction very much as with football where most referees are paid a fee for overseeing league matches. In fact I have a friend who is a hairdresser and he also gets paid a fee when he referees non league matches in his spare time.

I can’t say I’m that impressed with todays racing but one that catches the eye for Howies Hottie is Kaaba Stone in the 2.10 Chepstow who finished close up behind some well regarded types on debut. He is bound to have come on for the experience and if he copes with the undulations on the Welsh track he will take the beating.

EYE-CATCHERS

FLAT

Major Cripies trainer D.O’Meara – Down the field at Chelmsford when not getting a clear run but remains well handicapped as a result.

Newstead Abbey trainer M.Hetherigton – Just got mugged on the line at Wolverhampton however had to use up a lot of energy getting over from a wide draw.

Thundering Blue trainer D.Menuisier – A very impressive winner at Sandown coming from last to first. He was strongly fancied by myself and was given as a freebie on my twitter page.

Shraaoh trainer Sir M.Stoute – Wasn’t suited by the draw or the Chester track and had to make a forward move to early in the contest. Ignore this run as he is better than that.

Back next Wednesday be lucky.

Howard Davis-Shaw.
