I went too Southwell last Tuesday for our three horse sting, hoping to better our previous treble that was foiled in a photo finish at Kempton Park last month.
First up was a Very First Blade, who was also my BetFan free tip, he pulled miles clear with another one called Sleet who had been fancied a few times here recently but is a very weak finisher so I was certain he would win the battle and he duly did at a nice SP of 4/1, a great start. We got our second winner when Carlanda won well at 3/1, waiting on Westminster who’s odds went into freefall, looked all over the winner but was headed on the post, foiled again!
We’ll definitely get the crown jewels one day, the next three horse sting will be during Cheltenham Festival week when all eyes will be on there and we’ll get the business done quietly elsewhere, don’t miss it! We’ll be laughing when all the other punters are crying into their beer as another shortie gets beat at the festival.
We had a fairly quiet couple of days after that, I’m not one for slagging jockeys when one gets beat but I get annoyed when they don’t do the simple things.
Most horses I bet like to run close to the pace so they don’t have a lot of ground to make up and also they are good travellers, I never bet anything that pulls hard or runs freely but when a jockey takes a pull and rides it with restraint when all its best form is suited to being more prominent it really annoys me and it happened twice in two days so come Saturday I wasn’t in the best of moods but had two strong fancies at Lingfield.
The first Primrose Valley who’s previous form is looking very strong proved to be different class and will win in a higher grade the second bet Pactolus was available in a place at 5/1 early but was smashed into 7/4, for once recently a photo went our way and we got the money!
Well pleased another good day for us but I’ve got to admit we were blown out of the water by Simon Holden’s Stable Line Gold service who produced an incredible 160 point profit on the day with three double priced winners, amazing tipping, I wished I’d put them in a retirement Canadian never done one of those before! I Hope when I see him next at York races he’s bought himself a new suit that brown and pink combo is very tough to pull off, but I suppose when standing next to him and that Rick Parfitt lookalike Andy Bell it makes me a standout with the ladies!
I had a few messages on Saturday advising me to back Sign of a Victory to win its Cheltenham prep and also ante post to win the Champion Hurdle itself so well had his recent work been. But they had heavy rain late on Friday and the ground had totally gone against this fast ground lover, in fact I was surprised it even ran. He passed on my concerns but they went unheeded. One of the worst sayings in racing is ‘a good horse will win on anything’ total nonsense! A horse may outclass inferior rivals in a weak contest when on unsuitable conditions but not in a graded race.
