Cheltenham 2015 – MC Racing

I have a few memories of the festival with many great races over the years, but early on in my betting career I was a fully-fledged flat nut probably helped in the fact that I live a stone’s throw from Windsor and Ascot, but I remember watching what came to be billed as the greatest race ever, the 1989 Cheltenham Gold Cup (described today as Dessie’s Gold Cup).

Like a lot of punters my money was Desert Orchid, I don’t know why as it’s record at Cheltenham wasn’t the greatest to say the least. Any way coming into the home straight Dessie looked a beaten horse as Yahoo strode on over the last to extend its lead only for the grey to dig in and close the gap eyeballing its opponent and striding past for a thrilling finish and winning in reality against all the odds considering conditions etc. So it’s pretty safe to say that race pushed me into having a lot more interest in the National Hunt.

With The Cheltenham festival less than a month away I thought it might be time to start getting the old data base working along with the ratings to find out how I was going to attack selections this year.
As we know betting at festivals is a lot different from our normal day to day selection process where as we are normally looking for some sort of value in our selections so that in the long run we should be able to gain a profit.

When it comes to festivals I go down the route where I want to actually find the best bets for a certain race whether that be the winner or an each way punt or any other type of bet where we can actually profit from. With that in mind I will be looking for trends and patterns in my ratings to find out the best way to bet the festival.

Each day of the festival I will write up my finding for one race, and they will be,

• Day One The Arkle Challenge Trophy

• Day Two The Queen Mother Champion Chase

• Day Three The Ryanair Chase

• Day Four The Gold Cup

With all of the above I may not necessarily be looking for the winners but the best way to bet the races. My findings for each race will be posted the night before the race and then my final decisions on the best way forward will hopefully be up at the same time, if not the next morning, I’m looking forward to hopefully making us all some good profit over the Festival period.

All The Best

Mick
