The Racing Post online is a great resource for horse, greyhound and soccer bettors because their databases are so comprehensive and easily accessible.
Every start of a new season for either flat racing or National Hunt I compile my list of 10 horses to follow. I use Raceform’s 100 Winners, horses to follow to help compile my list as it is a compendium of horses due to run in the coming season with a concise description of each horse’s merits.
With the Racing Post I can check the past results of any likely candidates for my list and any future engagements. Take for example the first horse on my 2012/2013 list of National Hunt horse to follow:
Arvika Ligeonniere (Fr)7yo
Missed two seasons through injury but is expected to fulfil his promise for Willie Mullins this year. For the way he dismissed a quality field in April 2010 at Punchestown over hurdles suggests this French bred jumper has a bright future. He returned to the fray in May 2012 and won from the front by 13 lengths in a beginners chase at the same course. Barring further mishaps he is certain to win races this season. Willie Mullins
On the home page of Racing Post online there is a search facility and all I need do is enter the name, Arvika Ligeonniere, to bring up his race record of all his races and the results. Here I can check on such pertinent information as his pedigree, news stories, photos and an option to make any of my own notes related to the horse.
A lot of the information on the page is linked to the relevant database; for example I can click on the courses he has raced at to obtain information on the track. His first race of the new season was at Fairyhouse which is described as a right-handed, galloping, testing track of 1m 6f . It is easy to see that the only track he has lost at is Cheltenham which is left-handed. I can also check Quotes made by connections which comment on his performance.
The Race Cards are another great source of information for all the runners at race meetings in the UK and Ireland. Certain major races abroad are also covered including the USA, France, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Italy, Australia and South Africa.
The database gives details of horses, jockeys, trainers, owners, courses, stallions, dams. Some of the information is available free however certain services require payment of £2.50 per week including; Racing Post Ratings, Topspeed Ratings, Spotlight Comments, Results Analysis, Advanced Results Search, Racing News, My Notes, Statistics, Pedigree Information, Racing, UK Replays.
For £4.50 per week in addition you get unlimited ATR replays, Tips e.g. Pricewise and Video Form Guides.
If Greyhound racing interests you there is access to meeting details for all 25 greyhound tracks in the UK as well as News, Betting, Results, TV, Post Pack, Top Draws, Classifieds, Blogs and Free Bets.
For soccer enthusiasts there are details of matches, Results, Teams, Competitions, Players and News. What is especially useful are the stats for 2 teams playing against each other e.g. for the Newcastle v Manchester City match the stats show that Man City have won each of the last five games between the two clubs.
This is followed by the Expert Verdict on the outcome of the match and a Recommendation bet e.g. C Tevez first goalscorer.
Finally the Shop sells a large selection of books, newspapers, diaries and calendars, photos and software.
