As punters we are always looking for an edge, a way in, something else that no one has cottoned onto yet, all in the attempt to extract as much value from our betting as possible. We spend hours a month using data bases to see what we can find all of which are time consuming and laborious.
But as it is some of our main source of income it’s all part of the game and is an essential part of our trade, in other words it’s our job.
Sometimes we forget how we first came to be in the business in the first place as with a lot of us it would have started at the local track as a young person soaking up the atmosphere, the excitement as the horses came running down to the winning post, lots of people giving other people money… I think you get what I mean?
To that prelude at that time our betting had no structure and we would bet on a horse for all number of reasons. How many times did you actually bet on a single horse? Probably never!! You would go through the card with your mates, the girlfriends just standing around looking pretty (or not in some cases) hoping that we knew what we were doing so they could spend the winnings for us!
You probably tried them all in the hope of hitting it big so you could go out on the lash long after racing had finished and your girlfriend would be your best mate for ever!!!!
So what I’m saying is although all the above was fun, deep down we all knew that these bets weren’t going to come in, but what if, that’s what it was all about screaming at your horse as it was going round convincing yourself that it was in a good position to win, through each race there was excitement right up til the line.
We as serious punters don’t get that buzz anymore in our day to day betting because it has become a job!!!!
In 5 days time the greatest show on turf starts, yes the Cheltenham festival is back.
I already pretty much know what my bets will be for the festival and as I have written before I have a separate bank just for those bets. But as it is Festival time be it this one or any of the other biggies I also have my fun bet bank, this is my bank that I will expect to lose and can afford to lose, nutter I hear you say!!!!
I say not really I want to put the fun back into my betting just now and then, I want to be sat in the pub with my mates (not going this year) comparing bet slips and dreaming of the big hit (without telling the missus this time round!) and how we are going to get smashed on the winnings later, cheer my horses in every race and basically have some fun with my bets.
Here is one of my fun bets already made with plenty more to go on.
Eachway lucky 15
Champion hurdle Faugheen 11/10
Queen Mother Mr Mole 8/1
World Hurdle Briar Hill 16/1
Gold Cup Many Clouds 8/1
It doesn’t matter if it wins or not because I know I’ll be having fun, oh but if it does that’s £63243.00 …Now what can I buy with that….lol
In essence let your hair down and have some fun with your bets..
Enjoy Cheltenham guys
All the best
