Having spent the last four weeks organising all my contacts and various methods ready for the jumps season I took a breather this weekend just gone to go through my accounts and look at how the flat season had fared compared to other seasons. It was looking very good and business has been fantastic this year. As I keep a record of all the money and bets placed I was able to sort through and look at the long term picture and which contacts had been profitable long term and who hadn’t. The usual suspects where still up there and they’ll be using me as I will them next flat season but unfortunately a few have been crossed of the Christmas card list.
In this game you have to look at the long term picture in order to be successful and contacts can come and go. You have to give people a chance of course but if after 20 or so bets they aren’t making you or them a profit you have to lose them from the business. I remember my Grandad telling me a story about a certain character who claimed to know many inside contacts and that he was willing to pass some of the information along to my Grandad at a cost. My grandad agreed to trial the lad out with his “inside information” and give it a go but would discuss costs after 10 horses had been given. After 6 horses had been given the trial was going quite well and things looked promising. As he read the paper he saw an advert in the Racing Post of a tipster service that had given 3 from 6 winners and quoted prices and the names. Of course they where identical to what the lad had given my Grandfather! He wasn’t amused and he severed ties immediately with the lad.
This character had basically rang this tipping service up and just passed them off as his own. Not the best way to go about business and he was soon found out. Sadly there are a lot of people out there that do conduct their business that way but not in the MATR towers. With over 20 years in the business and nearly that long building up a solid and trustworthy network of contacts Man At The Races will be here for a long time to come and as long as you are a part of this service you can reap the rewards as I do. Remember we’ve not had a losing month in over 14 months now and I can’t see that changing. Of course we do have losing runs but overall the solid information that my subscribers get makes each month a winning one.
