Eleven fillies line up today in the Investec Oaks at Epsom, what looks to be an open affair for this year’s renewal so I thought I might share a few pointers for the race so that you will be armed with some facts to try and help you decide who will be running past the post ahead of the rest. So here are a few stats from the last 10 runnings,
• Winners have been priced between 9/4 and 33/1 with three winning favourites (including one joint).
• Nine winners finished either first or second on their previous start; the exception was third of six in a Group Three.
• Winners had had between two and seven career starts.
• Six winners hadn’t finished out of the frame during their career.
• None of the winners had previously raced over 12f.
• Nine of the winners hadn’t previously tackled a Group One; the exception was placed at that level.
Will more than likely go off as the favourite after landing the first fillies classic of the season the 1000 Guineas and will be attempting to be the 48th filly to win both races, but if we are to swayed by the stats from the last 10 years we could well cross this one off the list.
Crystal Zvezda 3/1
Prevailed in her reappearance run in the Hara De Bouquetot Fillies Trial Stakes and looks to be the main rival to the favourite, though yet to run at the distance and this will be her first run at this kind of level.
Jazzi Top 12/1
Won the Pretty Polly Stakes at HQ last time out beating the well backed Zannada, she could well be moving in the right direction and another contender that is trying the trip for the first time and this will be her first try in this grade aswell.
This Filly won the Cheshire Oaks last time out in impressive style but I’m not sure she was up against much that day, but she again is another contender trying the distance for the first time and falls into the catergory of not having raced in Group one event.
Together Forever 10/1
Finished last year winning the Dubai Fillies Mile Group one event and then finished a close head behind Star Of Seville in the Musidora at York on her reappearance run, yet to tackle a distance this far and even though the stats say she is one to possibly cross off the list she should at least reverse the form with the affore mentioned.
Star Of Seville 12/1
Has won 3 of her 4 starts progressing nicely with the last being when just holding on to the win over Together Forever in the Group 3 Musidora at York yet to run further than 10 furlongs and was idling in front last time out so the step up in trip may well be beyond her.
Lady Of Dubai 12/1
Won the Bibendum Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood last time out in timely fashion winning by over 3 length in the end, with that win and ticking a lot of boxes is another for consideration.
Those are my main contenders for the race with Jack Naylor 6/1 , Al Naamah 16/1, Qualify 66/1 and Bellajeu 40/1 completing the line up.
If you have never been to the downs I would highly recommend a trip down there and what better meeting than the Derby meeting to make it a first.
Good luck in whoever you go for but I’m sure it will be a fantastic race.
All The Best
