Andy Bell’s Racing Diary

An Amazing Winning Cheltenham “AGAIN.”

Saturday 15th/Sunday 16th.

We had bit of a sweat on coming into the second day of the Paddy Power meeting as we were sitting on a big anti post bet in the big one it’s self.

Last Monday we had backed CAID DU BELAIS at 25/1 and today we had topped up in the same race with PRESENT VIEW ew at 7-1. Also we had backed THE DRUIDS NEPHEW ew at 9/2 and put the latter two in an ew double.

The pressure is firmly on as I had given myself such a big build up in my column yesterday and if it all goes tits up I’m going to look and feel a right tosser and also probably be told that many times on my Facebook Page.

As I said yesterday I am gracing Wetherby with my presence today, can you believe it’s the first time, I only have four more courses to do and I have completed the circuit.

Although I am at Wetherby my full focus is firmly on Cheltenham. I have planted my self in the upstairs owners and trainers bar bang in front off the flat screen TV. Although I have no plans to bet here today, nothing is cast in stone and I do keep an eye on the paddock to see if anything stands out.

The nerves are tingling as THE DRUIDS NEPHEW is absolutely bolting along and two out Barry Geraghty is so confident he takes a pull and let’s SAM WINNER get first run on him, although he tries after the last he can never quite reel SAM in, I’m not going to moan about Barry’s ride as he is a world class jockey, but I think if the race was re ran he wouldn’t of taken a pull two out and given SAM WINNER so much rope. A small profit as we are a clear second, and it’s a good start to our ew double. with the big one to come.

All is going well as PRESENT VIEW is jumping like a stag and not touching a twig, turning for home we are long odds on to win and three out we are clear, jumping the last the writing is on the wall and we are booked for a place, jumping in fourth and to be honest had slipped off my radar is our very own 25/1 anti post shot CAID DU BELAIS, well let’s say the rest is history as he absolutely motors up the hill and wins bang on the line by a neck. Oi oi Bellie Boy what an absolutely fantastic result we have all copped a 25/1 WINNER and a 7/1 ew third in the Paddy Power which will give us a very nice added bonus of an ew double. The little quiet sedate Wetherby owners and trainers room is not quite that any more as my mind is in a complete frenzy I don’t know whether to jump and shout more, shit, piss or just sit and reflect. Thankfully my mind is made up for me as a grateful punter, who’s card I had marked earlier brings over a nice bottle of wine which we can share.

With my work firmly complete for the day, making in excess of 75 points profit and hopefully a happy set of punters, it’s time to appreciate what I’ve achieved and chill.

I am staying in York tonight so things could get messy.

A quick shower and I’m in Missoula waiting for Simon to arrive. By the time he rocks up I’m already enjoying the cocktails. Simon is Simon and we enjoy a few drinks together before he does his normal Houdini disappearing act.

Oh well there’s worse places to go than the Red Chilli Chinese and eat the soft shell crab, oyster foo yung and sliced whelks, not forgetting a bottle of Pinot.

My super day comes crashing down round me as I stagger into the late store and they are sold out of Fab lollies, so I have to settle for a twister and a bag of M & M’s.

Sunday morning and I am catching the 9-58 from York homewards, with the lingering effects of last nights jolly up. What a day we all had making a fabulous 78 points profit and shooting us up the table into third. You can’t say I didn’t tell you so, we always make money at this meet and I must say most of the big ones as well and this year has thankfully been no exception to the rule. For all these big meets you really need to be a part of my service because we really do normally excel.

Thankfully the rattlers are all running on time and there are no steward inquiry’s or taxis at Peterborough today. Yesterday’s achievements are going to very difficult to match, but I do really like a couple and put them up VANITEUX who I have now been banging on about for over two weeks and I advise an ew bet at 9/2 and the Paul Nicholls trained DODGING BULLETS at 11/4, your never guess who bred him, our very own Frankie Dettori.

Luckily I have now bought a device that enables me to get on the internet 99% of the time as the trains Wi-Fi are pitiful and thankfully I did as I get the Dicky Johnson ridden DEFINATLY RED come through as a maximum in the last at Cheltenham against another Henderson so called hotpot.

DEFINATLY RED is trading at 3/1 which is a great price as the over hyped BIRCH HILL of Nicky Henderson’s can’t possibly win on his times and performances in the point to point field. My LATE SERVICE clients get this advised  as a maximum bet and I suggest taking the 3/1 because I am told this is going to be smashed up.

My father kindly picks me up from the station again and I invite him to tea as I am donning my Jamie Oliver apron and doing the days roast, he can join the rest of the crew which is descending upon Jafeica House this afternoon.

I watch a fantastic race at my Fathers before I head home and DODGING BULLETS jumps brilliantly but not quite as good as the front running JP owned UXIZANDRE, what an advert for racing and not forgetting the very game SIMPLY NED. We are ultimately beaten by what has got to be one of the favourites for the Ryanair chase in March UXIZANDRE, I just wonder whether our DODGING BULLETS will swerve another encounter and go for the Queen Mother chase.

What a great weight carrying performance by VANITEAUX as he just fails to get up on another Dicky Johnson ridden winner and finishes second returning us a small profit, how good does that make our waiting to run SIGN OF VICTORY from the same stable, who will run in the fighting fifth hurdle at Newcastle, we WILL be on, watch for the anti post prices.
Veg all prepped, beef and chicken in the oven, the Yorkshire pudding mix in the fridge, cold beers and wine all round and of course not forgetting Daddy’s Malt Scotch.

Pre race as they are lining up I’m worried, not worried, concerned by the fact that Dicky has already ridden an unprecedented six winners at this meeting and he is aboard DEFINATLY RED, but I suppose it’s like flicking a coin, if it’s been heads 99 times theirs no absolute guarantee it’s going to be tails the next time.

During the race I am getting more confident as the supposed talking horse BIRCH HILL is running as his previous form suggests, poorly, rounding the top turn son-in -law Oliver let’s out a cheer, to Lauren’s frown, my Father nears the edge of his chair and I ease little Layla onto the floor.

Oliver starts the chanting, father, with a big Cheshire grin eases his way back into the chair and I give it a good old fashioned Oi oi, Layla wondering what all the fuss is about wanders to the TV and plants her nose on it, it doesn’t matter as the last picture I saw we are six lengths clear and have bolted in. Gosh it’s lovely when it happens, me and the whole family and my LATE CLIENTS have had it right off, but please savour these moments because there will be many hard luck stories and kicks in the bollocks to follow.

My lucks defiantly in today the beef is still pink, the chicken is no longer clucking and the Yorkshire puddings have risen to the top of the oven and my gravy, with it’s red wine and Worcester sauce is perfect, my second oi oi of a great day.

Monday 17th.

My old saying needs to come to the fore today “after The Lord Mayors show” (s##t) the racing is pitiful today and I am not getting involved at all.

I also have no intentions of taking the boys up on their kind offer of gracing Weatherspoon’s with my presence, I will later in the week. I am going to see if we have any anti post bets lurking for the coming weekend.

With what I can do on Saturdays cards finished, which was made easier by what look like a couple of good things, which will not be in our price range, THE NEW ONE will be or should be about 1/4 on, I wonder if Nicholls dare let SILVINIACO off the leash today after his canter round last time and MIDNITE APPEAL if the ground is soft to heavy will go well in the last, but my two I have come up with are and lets hope they are as good as last weeks anti-post 25/1 winner. I am going to advise and email out two selections for Saturdays fixed brush race at Haydock, OSCAR ROCK ew at 16/1 and also DARA TANGO ew also at 16/1, lets hope they get declared first than take it from there, I am pretty sure they both will.

Tuesday 18th.

Although Mr Jolly didn’t have a good day yesterday and I don’t mean betting either, he feels well enough to accompany me to Fakenham, we have a small bet in the second on last years winner TEA CADDY against the odds on favourite also I have a good word for SHADOWS LENGTHEN at Doncaster. He is trading at 5/1 and looks a bet to nothing ew after his cosy win last time.

We arrive at Fakenham to a lot of gloomy faces as the odds on Favourite and a lot of peoples banker of the day gets beaten in the first. TEA CADDY is very well bet but hasn’t got his jumping boots on and runs a poor race.

I know the betting doesn’t always tell the whole story, but I am very concerned when this shrewd stables SHADOWS LENGTHS drifts alarmingly out to 10/1 and although he runs an ok race he is never quite there and I think another day is in mind for him.

Wednesday 19th.

Once again the racing is very mediocre and there is nothing to tickle our fancies today, so I’m going to get the old Barnet trimmed. Betfan has asked me to be part of a dream team for the Newbury Hennessy Festival next week. Well I’m not sure about the name dream team, more like the “has” been team, with the Colonel, who’s doing Thursday, the Grumbling Don doing Friday, that leaves Bellie Boy to do the main day, which is Hennessy day itself Saturday. If any of you are around I shall actually be at Doncaster on Friday and Newcastle Saturday for the fighting fifth hurdle as we will probably be backing SIGN OF VICTORY. (Facebook me on andybellracing to arrange a meet).

Thursday 20th.

Today I have a jolly planned out with the lads, Paul Cabbage and Tony the Machine, first time for three weeks and I have a feeling it could get very messy.

I email out CANDIDE on my ANDY BELLs service and two on my LATE SERVICE and head towards my meet with the boys. Three large gin and slimline tonics later and we have just cheered in the first winner of the day GONE FOREVER, just as we have finished counting our winnings it’s time to reinvest on RICHMOND as he bolts in Paul and I give it large in Corals as we both have another lovely cash draw. Back to Weatherspoons and more importantly back to our Gins. CANDIDE drifts out to 20/1 and never looks like winning although he does run on very strongly and is closet at the finish, he will win races and we will be on him.

Paul is on top form and reminds me about the time we went to the Cheltenham December meeting and we stripped the Christmas tree of decorations and brought them home in carrier bags, the funniest bit was him bending the tree nearly in half to get the fairy from the top. The look from the receptionist the next morning as we left told its own story, thank goodness there were no security cameras.

The LATE service boys and girls were rewarded for their loyalty today, when backing GONE FOREVER at 11/4 and RICHMOND at 6/4 and also putting them in a win double. GONE FOREVER won very nicely and RICHMOND bolted in, giving us two winners and a cracking double resulting in an amazing 72 points profit and catapulting us up the Betfan who’s who table. It was extra nice as the sole LATE SERVICE clients had to watch as my ANDY BELLs clients picked up over 70 points on Saturday, so once again showing the need to be part of both services.

We leave Weatherspoons and head towards the Swan in hope that the sexy barmaid is on duty, I don’t know why as we couldn’t raise an argument by this time.

Friday 21st.

OMG will I ever learn, I am hanging like a bastard this morning. I am soon more cheery when I check my betting accounts and they look very healthy after Saturdays smashing day, Sundays maximum and yesterdays triumph. The one downside is another one of the Greedy 1s has stopped my betting account, sod them there’s more ways to skin a cat than one, I have three daughters with accounts, the only problem is as past experience tells me, even the Greedy 1s are quicker at paying than they are, if ever.

I cant believe that JOLLYS CRACKED IT isn’t favourite today as he takes on Nicky Henderson’s CLONDAW BANKER again, who jumped like a pig last time, so I email out my ANDY BELLs clients suggesting that we all steam in and take advantage of this rare pricing error.

The LATE SERVICE boys and girls now have plenty of cash to splash after yesterday and I email them out VIAGO at 11/10 over at Haydock.

I really feel like a hair of the dog with the lads again, but I cry off as I have a busy weekend with some great racing tomorrow and I may grace Huntingdon with my presence tomorrow, the only problem is it’s such an early start and I will have to leave home at 10ish to get there and I’m not sure I will be finished in time and then onto Towcester Sunday.

JOLLYS CRACKED IT gives them all a lesson in the jumping stakes and is bolting away until he smashes through the second last, I bet Smiley wasn’t so smiley and goodness knows how he stayed on, but thankfully he did and after over compensating at the last he wins quite nicely.

To be honest I think that VIAGO would of had a tough battle on his hands had GRAND VISION not of fallen three out, but when your lucks in it’s in. So once again both services and ALL my clients have had another winning day, lovely jubbly.

Saturday22nd.

Glad I resisted temptation yesterday as I’m up with the larks and feel a million dollars again. A really good day for both my services and clients again yesterday with JOLLYS CRACKED IT winning for my ANDY BELLs clients and VIAGO winning for the LATE SERVICE. That’s good both services are nicely in profit and heading in the right direction with over 80 points profit combined.

I can tell you we have a right old fashioned punt coming off next week and it will be a working mans price and fill our boots time. I hope you secured your prices on both my Anti-post selections Monday as they both run and I see that pricewise has nicked OSCAR ROCK for his column today.

Free Tip: I am really struggling today, you could do much worse than back my two anti-post selections from Mondays Column.

2-25 Haydock OSCAR ROCK ew 12/1 & DARA TANGO ew  14/1

I was eating in a Chinese restaurant last week, surprise, surprise and there was a dish called Mother and Child Reunion. It turned out to be chicken and eggs. I thought that was quite clever.

After another cracking week, be good, spend wisely, NEVER,NEVER, NEVER get caught and when the wife asks you what time you got in last night, always be aware, she already knows.

Back next Saturday.
