The Great Escape…
How ironic on a SH** punting week SH** had the last laugh as Bath was called off yesterday because of it flooding the jockeys changing room, because of backed up drains before we even got a run for our money on my FREE advice.
LETS PUT A LINE UNDER THE WHOLE WEEK!
Monday 21st. Hello everybody. The weather conditions are absolutely awful today and all meetings will race on heavy goings today. We are going to back BOW CREEK as it won on soft ground very nicely last time and is well fancied to go through today’s ground.
I have also had a very good word, from a cracking contact for the Richard Hughes ridden THE ALAMO and nobody rides Windsor better and he knows where to place a horse best in these awful conditions.
I am now going to Newmarket to see if I can get confirmation on a BIG bet we have got coming of later in the week.
I settle down in the Wagon & Horses to watch Hughsy in the 3-00, 2f out I am just a little concerned but ultimately Hughsy has plenty up his sleeve and wins really well. Yet another winner for us and ensures a winning day with 1 still to run.
BOW CREEK hits the front 2 out, but just cant go through what is heavy ground and is swamped and finishes a very tired 4th. The winner is a real shocker and has found in excess 20lbs and will be very hard to place again.
Another winner and a small winning day, but don’t mock winning 1s in these condition’s as they are very difficult to come by.
Tuesday 22nd. Today is quiet at Newmarket and not much to report really, bit of a wasted journey to be honest, but it certainly still beats the hell out of stacking shelves or sweeping road even in a difficult month as this.
On my way home I get a call and I am told that we have an Anthony Honeyball flyer which runs tomorrow and nothing can get near it at home and they are hoping it will be a decent price, because at home it has been keep well under the radar, so we have something possibly HUGE tomorrow to look forward to.
As I get some decent information from the Evan Williams stable I am excited to receive a very good word on an ex pointer called MINELLA FRIEND running at Exeter this afternoon and at 7/2 I back this with Corals “in cash” and also advise a 5pt win.
PLEASURE BENT is going really well at home and Hughsy has the ride today and I am told this is going to be smashed up in the betting, so at 7/4 I also back this in Corals “also cash” and take what I am told will be a great price come race time.
A dreary day and it’s not made any better by the sloppy jumping of MINELLA FRIEND, which ultimately costs him the race as he is beaten 1/2 a length into 2nd.
Hughsys mount PLEASURE BENT is being smashed up in the betting all afternoon as I was told it would be and wonder about laying a little of my stake off on Betfair as it’s now even money, but that little GREEDY monster is on my shoulder and reminding me of all that CASH that should be coming, so I sit tight “whole duck or no dinner.”
No duck or any dinner as a very well backed (odds on) Hughsy finishes 4th.
What hurts most is I have lost my actual folding, which feels worse then if 1 of my bettors had put on for me.
Another October losing day. God I’m hating this month!!!!!!!!!!!!
BIGGY tomorrow, ever the optimist me.
Wednesday 23rd. I wake up excited this morning (now, now only horsey thoughts) thinking about our alleged gamble on a big priced A Honeyball runner and quickly look and try to double guess it as I am not privy to the name yet. I soon realise it’s an impossible task and do all my print outs of the form for the day as normal.
Nothing is jumping off the page at me today, so I am waiting for our call, which duly arrives at 10-30am and I am told to spread the money around as much as possible as ROUQUINE SAUVAGE in the 5-40 at Fontwell has been beating everything at home and is in receipt of 7lb.
I am lucky enough to have 4 good bettors and although I have missed the 12/1, I quickly put this up to all my clients on BETFAN and advise a MAXIMUM ew bet and to take the 10/1. I then inform my crew to take whatever they can for me down as far as 8/1.
Mid day this is amazingly 9/4 and I know a lot of you have snapped up the 10s and 8s and the gamble is nearly complete. I hope they have told ROUQUINE SAUVAGE and the final part of the jigsaw is in place when Rachel Green jumps ship as the stable mate is a non runner.
It has to be the last race and it’s an agonising wait as we haven’t been particularly pulling up trees this month, so every mishap possible goes through my mind.
All my fears are finally alleviated as ROUQUINE SAUVAGE saunters round the corner about a mile out and wins very cosily. Oi Oi once again the October skies are blue and the grass is green, I have managed to pull of a MAXIMUM bet on a 10/1 winner and we have all had a fantastic winning day.
No big celebrations or lagers tonight as the blog title suggests, as in the film the Great Escape the tunnel “tom” is now well under way but it’s certainly not complete yet.
A MASSIVE winning day of 60 points
As my Maltese counterparts say SAHHA NARAK ADA.
Thursday 24th. I am still on a massive high after yesterdays cracking 10/1 winner, but our “great escape” is by no means complete yet.
This morning I am excited that I am told PENDRA has been jumping and schooling for fun at home and is the apple of Charlie Longsdons eye at the moment and could well be the flag bearer for the stable over the fences this year.
From the one extreme to the other a 10/1 winner yesterday and an odds on today, but with the very strong information I have received this morning I am not concerned and advise a big bet at 5/6, personally I can only get 4/5 but am happy and reinvest “some” certainly not all of yesterdays winnings.
Some misguided punters will invest more the shorter the price, but I can assure you it should really be the other way round. Just because a horse is shorter on a bookmakers tissue it doesn’t automatically mean it’s more likely to win. Although I will say you can certainly get “better” odds on shots than others, although I will also say it’s the quick way to the poor house.
Today I am very happy to back PENDRA at a shade odds on.
The point to point boys are crawling all over TRUCKERS STEEL in the NH flat race in the 4-40 at Southwell and the form of its maiden point win couldn’t of worked out any better. It’s certainly in the right hands as Tom George certainly knows his horses and also his gambles. TRUCKERS STEEL is trading at 9/4 on the morning tissues and I take this and also advise the BETFAN clients to follow suit. I have gone in heavier then normal but these boys are good.
We have got some good racing tomorrow at Newbury and Doncaster to look forward to, I am trashed to do the cards yet as this whether is a real pain at the moment and the going could change for the worse.
PENDRAS race is not far off so maybe some dusting or hovering hehehe.
PENDRA does miss a couple of fences but I am never really concerned and he wins for us nicely by 3 lengths, our staking plan today now ensures its another winning day regardless of TRUCKERS STEEL.
In a nut shell TRUCKERS STEEL is popped out in front and all the other horses and jockeys see during the whole race is his rapidly disappearing hind quarters into the distance and he runs out an easy 10 length winner.
Top information point to point boys again, thank you and what a SP, 11/4, BEST ODDS guaranteed comes up trumps again.
Another brilliant winning day and another 16ish points in the bin and the tunnel is progressing nicely.
Friday 25th. 2 winnings days so far and massively in front this week, long may it continue I say.
1st day that our local jumps track opens for business “Fakenham,” It’s a lovely circular left handed track and Nicky Henderson and Paul Nichols love popping short priced winners round here at most meetings.
Fakenham, although on a map it’s close to us the roads are mostly cart tracks and it takes me the best part of 2 hours to actually get there.
It’s a lovely morning, but we have torrential rain forecast which could be a pain to our/my punting.
I am reluctant to put the Gordon Elliot trained ARIANE NOPOLIS up because its defiantly a good going ground horse and if the forecasts are correct it will scupper his chances and firmly bring the Caroline Bailey charge into contention. However it’s lovely at the moment and I tell all my BETFAN clients if they are able DON’T bet now wait until race time as I am.
2nd last time and the John Gosden connections think BLESSINGTON can go 1 better today and are very confident of a win.
My worst fears happen as on my winding journey to Fakenham the heavens open and we have torrential rain for most of the journey. On arriving at Fakenham the sun is out and I am told the going is good, good to soft in places, I find this very difficult to believe and query the clerk of courses going report in the office, but am told it is correct. Mmmmm.
The 1st race backs up not only my opinion as it is 30 seconds slower then standard, I ask a jockey what the ground is like and the reply is AWFUL. With my bet pending and the official going not changed I watch the 2nd and again 30 seconds slow.
These going reports are absolute crap and mislead all the racing public I think.
I decide not to punt ours as I said in my column and my worst fears are compounded by ours never able to put his speed to good use and looks as if he has just ran the national coming back to the paddock.
I have not lost personally, but to say I am pissed off is an understatement.
Henderson and Nicholls both get their habitual short priced winners and we await BLESSINGTON.
I also know our fate before the race has been run as the going is now heavy at Newbury and that is as far from what we need as possible. I don’t even stay to watch it and listen to the commentary on the way home and we are only mentioned once in last.
I feel cheated at Fakenham and gutted at Newbury and even worse our good fortunes have come to an abrupt end.
A small cave in which will set us back a day or 2.
I know we have a good bet tomorrow, but it’s a Saturday which worries me a tad.
Saturday 26th. As expected the phones are red hot on this busy Saturday and I already have confirmation on the bet I mentioned yesterday. The race at first glance looks tricky enough, but I am soon able to eliminate over half the field.
Charlie Longdon ran MAGNIFIQUE ETOILE in some top races last year. For once we think the handicapper has been lenient on this Tolworth 3rd and has given him a great chance after his long lay off to make a winner reappearance. Although we miss the 7/2 with what I have been told the 3/1 looks a great price. Amazingly 1 of my bettors manage to get me some 10/3 but predominantly I settle and take the 3s.
The John Gosden team are still reeling over the loss of Blessington yesterday on the virtually untraceable ground and we think we gain compensation today on NICHOLS CANYON and I finish the day with an ew at Wolverhampton.
I am out tonight so today’s ups and downs will be analysed in the morning.
Sunday 27th. How magnificent is MAGNIFIQUE ETOILE bolting up by a very easy well backed (2/1) 10 lengths, a great start to our Saturdays quest.
When NICHOLS CANYON is pulling double and the rest are rowing away, I think we are about to bag our 2nd winner, but after trading at 2s on in running we finish a clear 2nd, which is a pain because I thought we were home and hosed.
Jimmy Quinn can’t get our ew selection into a place after trying his heart out at a very well backed 13/2 into 9/2.
In summary a winning Saturday, but it could of been so much better. Any winning Saturday is to be taken and this one now puts us over 70 points profit for the week, which I am VERY VERY happy with.
Is that light at the end of the tunnel I can see.
I bet “The Dons” Penny doesn’t need to read my column to sleep after what I had to endure at Newmarket and York.
Rights Boys and Girls on your toes today as I am attempting to win over 30 points today.
In my quest to win 30 points today I am going to include 2 of them as my FREE tips for you all.
2-05 Aintree ELY BROWN at 2/1 Ladbrokes. WIN BET
2-20 Wincanton MIDNIGHT OSCAR at 11/2 William Hill. EW.
In all we have had a fantastic last week of the month and hopefully today can add to our 70 point profit and finish a very difficult punting month on a high.
Thank you to everybody that joined me this week and thank you everybody that have resubscribed.
We have a MAXIMUM bet wed/thur and hopefully it wins as both our Maximums did this week.
Until next week be safe and a become lot richer.
