Andy Bell’s Racing Diary… THE LATE BETTING Phenomenon
Sunday 16th. Yesterday our free tip was obviously in a very bad mood, as he planted himself at the start and thought sod this for a game of soldiers I’m not running round in this awful going and knackering myself up for the future, I can’t fault him really, but the jockey, Joss, did a great job getting LAMPS even to consent to start and during the race he was again very muleish and a totally different horse to the one that won last time. I think LAMPS should or will have the timeform squiggle now.
Also on the ANDY BELL service, I backed myself and emailed out AURORE D’ESTRUVAL at 15/8 and MOUNTAIN KINGDOM at 13/8 and advised putting the two in an ew double or as I’m told the prats bet.
I am so glad I am not braving the elements again today as the conditions are horrendous and it’s nice sitting at home watching on the old goggle box and flicking off the more crap races and watching the Winter Olympics.
After the first race at Ascot, I get a call telling me the going is amazingly not as bad as first feared and this opens the doors for CAPTAIN CHRIS to add to what is already a great CV by winning again today. I quickly have a really big personal bet on him and email this out to THE LATE BETTING service and advise taking the incredible price of 11/10.
How far is AURORE D’ESTRUVAL going to win by as he is cruising through the race and jumping two out Brian Hughes is taking a pull, jumping the last and the same applies, he is trading at 50/1 ON in running and incredibly, he doesn’t pick up and finishes second, in the after race interviews the excuse was the ground blunted his finishing speed.
CAPTAIN CHRIS is smashed up in the betting and goes off odds on. Dicky Johnson is always sitting just off the pace and some of his jumps are mind blowing and when asked he just cruises round the outside and its goodnight nurse and the rest is history as they say. Another winner for the LATE BETTING SERVICE to finish off a cracking week, in which we have had 7 bets, 5 winners and a second.
Dicky Johnson is chasing a double on the very well fancied MOUNTAIN KINGDOM and coming to the last we are beat until Choc takes a crashing fall and all credit to Dicky as he was still laying in third after the fall, but him and MOUNTAIN KINGDON put in 110% to get up and win bang on the line.
We still posted a small loss on the day and a bit of luck came our way for once. Our now famous prats bet posted a profit with a first and second, now if it was a 4 point win double, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out that is -4 points oppose to + 0.4. Loss limitation achieved again.
We start the week on a high, yes literally, with ANDY BELL top of the BETFAN tree with over 70 points profit already this month and our sister or top up mob THE LATE BETTING SERVICE being a clear second with just under 50 points profit. I know a lot of my clients are in both services, “good on ya” and well done to you all, as you are all again reaping the rewards and sitting on over 120 points profit for February so far.
What is that Don and his Sunday column on folks, how can a man with a hairstyle like Friar Tuck have the balls to pull the piss out of other peoples styles hehehehe.
As to his Cheltenham cheap cracks, as another great man said;
“Tact is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.” Winston Churchill
Our Sunday bet at 9/1 ew GOLD CARROT was racing really nicely and just coming into the race when LILLY MARS cut him up and done him no favours not once but twice and once his chance had gone there was no chance of the very shrewd Gary Moore stable getting him any closer than need be.
KILCOOLY came through as a very strong bet just as we were sitting down to Sunday lunch and I suggested to all the LATE BETTING SERVICE clients that we should hoover up all the 5/2, as I am also told that this will look a huge price come race time as the favourite is not the easiest of rides and has a very awkward head carriage.
Monday 17th. KILCOOLY finishes yesterday on a high and wins very nicely. How right were we about the wayward favourite and with a losing day on ANDY BELL we are in danger of our top up service taking the number 1 spot, but as long as we keep 1 and 2 in house that’s ok.
It’s greasy spoon day and the weekly meet and catch up , time to chew the cud and give the “Fixer” Owen his weekly walk and a sausage (hehehe ring any bells Mr Friday columnist).
Early this morning I get a call saying the old boy GENERAL TUFTO is kicking and springing at home and his lass says it normally means he is going to run a huge race. He is trading at a big price of 14/1, so I back him ew and also email this out to my clients.
Also the Mark Johnson trained DOLDRUMS is down to his winning trip and grade and at 4/1 he is surely at bet to nothing ew to finish my day.
The “Fixer” Owen has had his walk and sausage and as there are only the two AW meetings on, we all descend on Corals to back GENERAL TUFTO ew and take the 14s which is still available.
Tony “the machine” as always can’t wait to get me beat, so he settles down with the Racing Post to crunch whatever figures he crunches and yes his bet is different to mine. Sometimes I do wonder, he is a brilliant cover and artexer, now if he told me how to put up a piece of coving or how to artex a ceiling, I would certainly listen and do it exactly as he says, but everybody thinks horse racing and picking winners is easy and they are best at it and anybody can do it. Look in Joe Corals it’s full of them, but what they don’t realise is we have put in hours and made numerous calls to come to our selections. Yes the doubters or the anything that moves punters (even if it is a computer generated horse, what a joke) will have their days and winners and be able to say “told you” when us “in the know” are beaten, but let doubters do it consistently month on month and then lets see.
GENERAL TUFTO does in fact run a great race and gets us 2nd at 16/1, although I do just think the winner did get first run on us and we were a fraction further back than ideal and thank goodness after my sermon in the last paragraph “The Machines” horse was behind us.
I think we have been rather unfortunate today not to at least get one winner. DOLDRUMS I also think could of had a better run and ride and thought he was unlucky to be intimidated when carried across the course. That’s racing as they say and the main thing is we have made a profit on the day.
Tuesday 18th. I still think we were unlucky yesterday after watching the reruns this morning, but at least we showed a profit on the day.
The cards look very tricky today and I am told that the ground at Taunton is virtually unraceable, so whatever happens I shall be avoiding there.
Wetherby looks very tricky, but we have 2 fancies STICKLEBACK which we back ew at 9/2 and WOOD YER and we take the 2/1. I am also looking to take on (or lay) LEVIATHAN of Venetia Williams at 6/4, which as many of hers are at the moment looks way under-priced for what its achieved.
I am going to have a look at the Doncaster card now and do some work on two races which we will hopefully have an interest in tomorrow. I am also planning on meeting three avid BETFAN readers, which replied to my ANDY BELL RACING Facebook page saying they will be in attendance, Oh and thanks Mr Ryan who gracefully took up my offer of calling me a tosser. Lol.
I am told that today we need to back FINE RIGHTLY, who we went against last time, when we were told his jumping was awful at home with LAYLA JOAN who beat him very easily, but today I’m told he has had constant schooling at home and today we will see a different animal. As it’s 2-00 clock, I email out the LATE BETTING SERVICE clients with the hot news.
I think STICKLEBACK and WOOD YER should have a rerun and race each other to see who actually gets the wooden spoon, because both were last of the finishers and both ran woeful races (sorry). After those two runs today’s, I feel compounded to put a “like” near Mr Ryan’s comments after such poor performances.
I am cheered up slightly as THE LATE BETTING service keeps banging in the winners and did so yet again today with FINE RIGHTLY bolting up and making it an incredible 7 WINNERS and a 2nd in the last 9 bets.
That will probably move them above ANDY BELL and be somewhere near the top of the pack,
Wednesday 19th. I am on the 8-14am train to Donny this morning and should hopefully get to the cafe just across the road from the station just before 11am. The Rock Holden should be meeting me there and I hope his BETFAN TV promo hasn’t gone to his head and all of a sudden he REALLY does think he’s Oliver Hardy.
The Rock Holden arrives sporting a swarve new haircut, which seems to be sporting lots of highlights, if he waits a couple of years he will be getting them free of charge.
We descend on the racecourse and immediately plant our selves upstairs in the owners and trainers bar. I have already sent out a members email saying that today’s tip at Ludlow will be late as this could be a maximum and we want to ensure everything is ok and leave nothing to chance. I get the nod from the course and immediately back MADE IN TIME at 9/4 in the Hunter chase and quickly email this information out as a really big bet. I also get the confirmation on PALYPSO DE CREEK at Doncaster in their Hunter Chase and also Jack the hat is very confident and bullish about LFFRANESIA at Kempton. I email these out on the LATE BETTING SERVICE, which even if I say so myself is absolutely flying at the moment, top of BETFAN tree and has hit 6 winners and a second in its last 7 bets.
All the work done and all my personal bets placed, so time for a beer or two with Mr Holden.
After the unconventionally dressed owner of UN ACE had screamed and swore the house down from tape to line, I think whatever we get up to during the afternoon will be an anti climax. HOLYWELL of John Jo’s look a national type in the making more Scottish or Welsh in my opinion as he stayed on really well after looking beaten. An ex inmate of the late Henry Cecil, Tranquil Sea won the veterans chase nicely and will probably go to the festival in the Kim Muir. I bump into the Grumbling Don at the paddock as I am nervously inspecting our charge PALYPSO DE CREEK to check if it still has four legs as its a terrible drifter and is trading at the amazing price of 6/4. All seems ok with him, more than I can say about old Grumbler who is moaning about, AACHEN losing in the previous race and doing him out of a double on the day as he had backed HOLYWELL. He then notices The Rocks new hair style and unless it was wind I am sure I saw a glimmer of a smile. We do invite him for a beer, but with a grumble not when he’s working and he thankfully declines.
PALYPSO DE CREEK gets the LATE BETTING SERVICE off to a stormer winning very easily at an incredible SP of 6/4. All eyes are now on Ludlow as MADE IN TIME is trading at a smashed up price of 5/4, we have certainly had an impact on this market and rightly so. He thankfully books his ticket to the Fox Hunters at Cheltenham with a nice and easy win and that will storm ANDY BELL back up in the table with 18 points profit.
We are joined on our table by the owners of the Neil King trained ZEROSHADESOFGREY who are very confident of a huge run in the last and I toy with the idea of also putting this up as a late bet, but decide with one more to run later to sit tight. I do regret this as Neil King tells me he thinks this is a Gold Cup horse of the future and possible the best he has ever had. The rest is now history as it wins easily by 2 lengths.
Robert Cowells IFFRANESIA wins a touch cosily at 11/4 and it’s another winner banged in for THE LATE BETTING SERVICE also making it another 20ish points and more remarkably 6 winners on the trot and 8 winners and a second from 9 bets.
We hit Weatherspoons in town and enjoy 4 or 5 swift pints, before moving on to another, which will remain nameless in case of reprisal’s, The Donny dump and I quickly remember why I never stay here. The racing post is still in full swing, but this time it’s knocking over all our drinks on the bar to amazingly the amusement of the scantly clad beauty behind the bar, but not to “the rock” as two of them were his heheheh. Time to go and we head for the station and I decide on being a good boy and catching an early train home as I am going to Huntingdon tomorrow.
Less than a hour into my journey I get the ultimate 25year old jobs worth ticket collector, pointing out I am on a earlier train than my ticket states and asking me for extra. (he’s lucky I’ve even got a ticket). Totally pissed off about this, I tell him in no uncertain terms, as the carriage is basically empty, apart from a fat man backing him up and saying you wouldn’t get on a wrong plane would you, the prick. I am having trouble hiding my wads of winnings in my pockets, whilst I am telling him I am skint and can’t pay, he moves on. Only to return telling me that I am lucky the police are not waiting for me at Peterborough as I had abused him and made his job very stressful and he may have to have time off to recover. How I didn’t laugh I don’t know, 25 years old and days off for stress, unbelievable. No Police at Peterborough and the rest of the journey goes without incident. Last time I am a good boy and leave early.
Thursday 20th. Yesterday we had 3 bets and 3 winners, we picked up and banked another 38 points between the two services, which are thankfully both flying at the moment and I didn’t have a night in the slammer, so a good day all-around.
Hoy u, Simon Holden sitting on the fence in your column today, talking about the Cheltenham challenge, between myself and the Grumbler, that’s a different opinion to the one you voiced yesterday, maybe it was the Gin talking. All you DON supporters need to be fearful, as I have four strong Cheltenham bets already sorted with the help and input of the greatest jockey riding at the moment. (for all you regular readers, you know who I mean).
I have arranged to get Mr Jolly out of the house today and take him to Huntingdon.
In what looks a very winnable race at Wolverhampton tonight, I get the nod on Captain Baileys trained SIXTIES QUEEN and at 16/1 I have a small bet ew and advise on email that my clients do likewise.
CARRIG MOR is a standout price of 5/4 with the Tote and his form looks solid after his 25l beating of MILORD and with the going being given as soft it’s all systems go.
Just as I am talking to Carl Llewellyn in the owners and trainers bar, I get a call telling me that PERFECT GENTLEMAN is fully expected to win the 2-15 at Clonmel, I quickly pop across the parade ring into the press room to use the Wi-Fi and email this out as a late bet at 11/4.
By the time I return Carl is in the paddock saddling up the first of the Nigel Twiston-Davies runners. PERFECT GENTLEMAN wins very nicely in the emerald isles to give us an incredible 9 out of 10 winners and another 11 points profit.
Mr Alan King joins me at my table to eat his shepherds pie or maybe cottage pie, it’s not at the fore front of my mind to be honest. I casually slip into the small talk whether CARRIG MOR will like the ground and I am told he may well struggle now the going has changed from soft to heavy. Mmmm, shit, we are now scuppered and nothing I can do about it but gracefully smile and say thank you.
CARRIG MOR does in fact bomb out and doesn’t run up to form and we can only put it down to the ground. I now wish I had advised Will Biddick’s mount in the Hunter Chase, but what do I say, shit in one hand and wish in the other and see which fills first.
As I am on the way home I have to endure the commentary of Will Biddick and CERTAIN FLIGHT bolting in.
The Captains SIXTIES QUEEN runs just as I get home and as all good each way bets finishes a non paying 4th at 16/1.
Friday 21st. THE LATE BETTING service which was set up as a top up fund to ANDY BELL is showing us all a clean set of heals with over 90 points profit already this month and clear at the top of the table.
Tomorrow I am told that we will have a very big bet and maybe that will re kick start our ANDY BELL month again. I have a trip to Newmarket first thing this morning and will hopefully watch a winner gallop, which we will be backing next week.
Whilst in town I discover that Mr Haggis has a great set of yearlings, which bodes well for our 2 year old flat season. I see Tony Elves driving Jamie Spencer’s car and find out he has parted ways with Tom Queilly and is now Jamie’s driver, now that could also be really good for us with the flat season already looming.
I thought Mr Holden’s TV promo was brilliant, he really is the face of BETFAN through and through, I know he Ra ra-ed myself, which I am very humbled by and rather embarrassed, but trying to get my Norwich beaten by Villa is totally unforgiveable 😉
Saturday 22nd. My chance to shine with a free tip again today and lets hope we can bang one in for all of you.
