I have to say I totally agree with the Gambling Don when he said last Saturdays racing at Sandown was not pleasant viewing watching horses struggle through the mud and then listen to that motley crew on Channel 4.
What is it with television presenters these days they all seem so unprofessional and boring. Take Sky Sports why do Carragher and Nevill have to dress like the Blues Brothers and sound like the Chuckle Brothers?
All I can say is bring back Andy Grey and Richard Keys. In actual fact the only two sports presenters I have any time for these days are Jason Weaver and Luke Harvey with their Friday evening racing show as it is entertaining and a laugh.
Perhaps Channel 4 should let me, Simon Holden and Andy Bell take over but then I dont think they could afford us.
As expected Fold4Gold romped away with top tipster for January finishing 90 points clear of our nearest rivals. However I can’t say Feb has started in the same vein. There is a word to describe it but I cant print it now that I’m a Lord but it rhymes with trap.
Mind you there is a line of thought that says the best time to join a tipster is after he’s had a bad run as the winners are bound to start flowing before long.
Now that Andy Bell has made me Lord Howie I started looking at family trees and found out that genealogists discovered that The Queen and Johnny Depp are cousins. Well I have a feeling that I am related to Roman Abramovitch as my grand parents emigrated from Russia at the turn of the last Century and our family name was Davidovitch which the emigration people changed to Davis as they coudn’t spell it properly.
The two families have ties so Howie and Roman could be cousins from way back!
Last Saturday I was at Hove Dogs to see my girlfriend Barbara’s Classy Molly romp home and win the Norah Mac Racing Club a cool £500 prize money which is not bad for a graded dog.
If you want some fun google Norah McEllistrom and join the club and be part of a great sport.
On the subject of greyhounds I’m sure Kevin Dear will be telling you about the Show of Passion Day on Feb 17th at City Hall London to register support for Wimbledon to be turned into a world class facility for greyhound racing and the more of you that can turn up and show Boris Johnson our passion for the sport the better.
On to today’s racing well I have to say nothing jumps off the page as Howies Hottie but one that might be worth a few quid is Secret Suspect in the 2.30 Lingfield. It’s a mile handicap for 3 year olds.
The filly was a good winner last time beating a decent horse of Charlie Hills who has won since. Secret Suspect has gone up in the weights but there could be more improvement to come.
As I have been promoting the dogs take a look at the 17.56 at Hove as one of Norahs Droopys Leonard in trap 6 could run well as he is a fast starter and the only wide runner in the race.
Mr Red Clubs trainer C.Appleby – Good winner at Wolverhampton being returned to the mile. He is still well in at the weights and can win again.
Temple Road trainer M.Bradley – Found 5 furlongs a little to sharp and when back over a longer trip he is handicapped to push on.
Ansaab trainer A.McCabe – Ran very well after an absence and should strip fitter next time.
Beyerbey trainer M.Johnston – Filly who needed her debut run but still led until the final furlong. This well bred type should be watched closely.
Meddling trainer Julia Fielden – The filly was purchased from the Stoute yard and although she finished last on her debut for new connections she showed up well for a long way. Keep em peeled as she could pop up at a big price.
Back next Wednesday have a good week and be lucky.
