The Don heads to Sandown today after a great week starting last Sunday where we landed a double at Carlisle.
My members are coining it in and we are already 16 ahead of the game in December but I’m determined to put plenty more points on the board before Santa arrives.
It’s a really strong card at Sandown today and though many are small fields the quality is certainly there. There has been much said about small field sizes this Jumps season but my view is they are fine if they still provide an interesting race to watch and punt on. The problems start when you get a 1/10 shot twice on a card then we don’t have much of a spectacle.
For our Saturday special this week we are heading up to Aintree who stage their Becher Chase day, the most important Grand National Trial there is and it’s the big race itself where we have our selection. It’s 3 miles 2 instead of 4 miles plus but that is still a real test for these horses and you will need to stay.
Willie Mullins sends over On his Own but do we really want to back a horse who has taken a bad fall here my answer is an emphatic no. This place leaves its mark and we are looking for a strong traveller who will be up there out of trouble at the front. This race has gone to veterans and experienced older horses on the whole and the horse we are backing fits into that category. Baby Run was last seen finishing third in the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown and though a real veteran he still has plenty of zest for racing. I understand the old boy is fit and fully wound up for today and I give him a real chance of landing one more big race. Sam Twiston Davies has won this race before and knows what’s required so lets get on each way at 25/1 with William Hill and get ready for a great spectacle.
I will be finding a big screen at 2.05 and cheering him on, have a great Saturday and as always Trust in the Don.
Back next Saturday.
