Welcome to my new Sunday BetFan column subtitled The Andy Bell can’t get his arse out of bed on a Sunday tribute column!
Only kidding of course a change is as good as a rest unless you play professional snooker! As I heard recently.
The Don will hope to become a fixture of your Sunday morning like walking the dog or refusing to help around the house.
On the subject of dogs and by god in Newmarket we have our share (it’s ok Penny still thinks I do the Saturday column she won’t see this) does anyone think the other columnists at BetFan have been at the cooking sherry this week?
Firstly we have Simon Holden writing his column as a series of questions on Boxing Day?
I have one for you, who is advising you in the fashion department because trust me they really don’t like you?
We then have the Greyhound guy on a Friday who thinks he is a racing tipster and Mr Bell yesterday who has become a greyhound tipster complete with celebratory cream cakes for the local constabulary, I had to ask Penny what she had been putting in the Dons trifle!
And you wonder why I hide when I see these people! Obviously they are all very good at what they do……….
So what do we have here then this Sunday as Mr Bells new best pals might put it when they have finished stuffing their faces.
What we have here is a hurdle race at 2pm at Leopardstown that is the best quality hurdle race run on either side of the Irish Sea this year. It features the living legend that is Hurricane Fly as favourite, a horse who has won 19 times over hurdles including last years Champion Hurdle. But wait at odds on is he really a betting proposition after his laboured reappearance. For me he isn’t even though he will be fitter today because I think he is about to hand over his crown to the next generation which though his fans will not like it is inevitable in horse racing.
Emotion and making money at horse racing are best kept apart and the Don has a private rule, always bet on what you think will happen not on what you would like to see happen. Our Connor last years runaway Triumph Hurdle winner will be all the rage but I have a feeling that though visually stunning that was a pretty poor renewal he won and he has to step up, which of course he may do.
Our historic first Sunday Special is a horse who tasted his only defeat at the Festival when he was beat by Champagne Fever and My Tent or Yours, it’s Jezki and I strongly expect him to win today. He is 11/4 with 888sport so he can be backed to win. The ground and track are perfect and he can lower the Flys colours and usher in a new era just like we are doing with your Sunday mornings.
Have a great day and remember whatever the Day always trust in the Don!
Back Next Sunday.
