What a fascinating read Andy Bells column was yesterday! There’s a phrase the Don didn’t think he would be writing.
A bit like thinking you would be saying, You had a big winner Simon, you never mentioned it!
I see he is having a pop at the greyhound fella now although he seems as cocky as old Belly Boy with his dubious tales of racing wins. The two of them should make a film together “The Ego has landed” obviously the greyhound bloke should play the lead!
Anyway the Don sincerely hopes next year Mr Bell goes on a round the World Cruise… in a rowing boat!
Well at Cheltenham trials day we witnessed an electrical storm that was genuinely terrifying. I don’t think I’ve ever seen rain like it on course. On the track itself I’m not sure whether we saw any future Festival winners but the big story will be the defeat of Big Bucks under his new jockey Sam Twiston Davies who seemed to think the winning post was a mile from the finish.
The Don doesn’t seek out controversy but I think there is a touch of the Emperors new clothes about young Sam and he was very naive here. Big Bucks should have been kept in behind and brought through after a long layoff the last thing he needed was to serve it up from the front. I’m not sure young Sam will have pleased the owners or the Trainer but we shall see.
The Giant Bolsterer won the Gold Cup trial which shows you all you need to know. Harry Topper needs an end to end gallop which he didn’t get. Don’t rule him out in the Gold Cup at a massive price because he will get it there.
Today the British racing offering is low on quality but fear not as Leopardstown are staging some fantastic racing and we have a Sunday cracker. Our bet goes in the 3.10 the grade 2 novice hurdle a race which features some exciting Irish Novices. Willie Mullins saddles the fave Sure Reef who is something of a talking horse in Ireland and has a huge reputation.
I’m taking him on though with another highly rated young horse from the Noel Meade yard. Wounded Warrior is his name and he is on a hat trick. From what I’ve seen on track and from what I hear from my contacts around this yard this horse is very smart.
Lets back him to win at 7/2 with Betvictor and we may then be seeing him at Cheltenham in March.
Get with me on my private service, good profits this month and massive overall.
Have a great day and as always Trust in the Don.
Back next Sunday.
