The Gambling Don

March 2, 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

The Don will be honest with you I’ve never had a losing six months, I’ve never had a losing year and I make an extremely good living from betting on horses racing each other and my members make a nice second income! BUT, February was a month to forget and the Don is thrilled it’s over.

Gluepot ground and some strange results have led to a frustrating time however March is here and with it brings better ground and the biggest Festival there is Cheltenham. All pro gamblers look to the festivals for a decent portion of their yearly wages because it’s the best horses in the best races and that’s what we all dream about.

Every night until a week on Tuesday there will be a different preview for Cheltenham and a different Bookmaker wanting to be your best friend. There’s a reason everybody punts more at Cheltenham and it’s because it’s the pinnacle of our year.

I was offered a challenge by the powers that be at BetFan to take on Andy Bell Racing at the Festival and I accepted it for two main reasons.

1- I genuinely don’t like Andy Bell, there I’ve said it I’m sure we all feel better now.

2 – Over four days at a Festival I don’t believe many people could beat me certainly not him. I watched the Betfan.com/tv this week and it’s true, the winner takes all is something I was happy with. I’m not sure Andy is but to be fair he has put the money down for a 5 grand side bet which is going to add more spice. A fool and his money springs to mind.

Every top Trainer is saying one thing and meaning another at the moment and I would warn you about taking literally what you hear at these preview nights. Just remember the owner is King and he pays the bills, another part of what I do is advise owners where to place their horses and with which Trainers. This is why I prefer anonymity unlike Bell and Simon Holden who would attend the opening of an envelope.

What I’m sure of is that these previews are not what they seem. I will rely on the greatest gift ever produced in racing, the formbook and my ability to read it to put me ahead at Cheltenham as it always has and I will give the panels a miss. Trust in the Don its not been a bad policy since I joined BetFan.

Anyway lets look at today and with the racing on our side of the pond not to clever we are going to Ireland for our Sunday Special. We are going to the 4.20 at Leopardstown, on the surface a wide open handicap but the Don expects a huge run from Pass the Hat. He has been running in better races and last time out made an error which did it for him. What I liked was the way he recovered and finished that day. There are some badly handicapped horses here and with a clear round he is a player. Take the 10/1 with Coral and back him each way.

Have a great Sunday, get signed up for the biggest show in Cheltenham there is one Bell in Cheltenham which won’t be chiming that week! Trust in the Don!

Back next Sunday.
