A Quiz question that will not impress your mates, Which week did the European Tour and the USA PGA Tour both have Tournaments but neither played in Europe or America?
No it’s not a trick question the answer is this week as both Tours are playing in the Far East, The European Tour in Shanghai and in a new twist the PGA Tour is playing in Kuala Lumpur!
Let me explain this rather odd series of events in one word, Money, and lots of it. The European Tour has been obsessed by the Far East for over a decade and has cultivated strong links which has helped established sanctioned Tour events and given the recession in mainland Europe has helped prop up the ailing Tour.
The all powerful PGA Tour in the States was starting to see its stars not bother with their late season Tournaments and head East so rather shrewdly they have joined the party too. So we have this week two mega money Tournaments on the same Continent which makes no sense on the surface but shows the US PGA can be pretty ruthless when it comes to who controls golf.
The CIMB in Kuala Lumper wheels out plenty of American big guns with the likes of Mickelson, Bubba if he can find it and Keegan Bradley all teeing it up. Over in Shanghai on the European Tour (keep up) all those Ryder Cup stars who were too tired and washed out to come over and play in the Seve Trophy are suddenly fit and well to play for the fortunes on offer. So lucrative is this part of the year the Poulter is staying in the Far East for the next five weeks. Luke Donald and Westwood will be hoping the change of scenery will change their fortunes, if it’s another bad week max bet for Lee is stay off twitter!
There are several trends to follow for Golf in the far east and the unique ratings system we use has certain filters which give us an edge. I’m very hopeful that this will be a lucrative month for us after all why should the players be the only ones who get all the cash!
I look forward to seeing you on the fairways.
Back next Tuesday.
