This week we have the imaginatively titled Thailand Golf Championship as if the organisers were concerned you might not know what it is so they have explained it in the title.
The Tournament is in its third year and continues to grow in prestige and in the quality of the field. The Tournament is played at Amata Spring Golf club in Chonburi which is a stunning layout. I say this with first hand knowledge because I’ve been lucky enough to play this course whilst in the region. Chonburi is not only a tourism destination it’s Thailand’s golf belt with a whole host of courses by top designers which you can play for about a third of what you would pay over here.
Amata Spring would be in the top 3 courses in the country and the organisers will be thrilled the man of the moment Henrik Stenson has been lured over to play. Stenson is still in great form and finished fourth last week in the Nedbank. When you first look at the betting you would be surprised to see Stenson only joint favourite with Charles Schwartzel but then the memory of Schwartzel’s devastating win here last year floods back and you can see why the bookmakers are taking no chances with him. Schwartzel was awesome as he did a right number on the field winning by 11 shots (which by a strange coincidence is what I took on the last par 3, before you start sniggering there’s water everywhere and I slipped).
This could be a battle royal between the pair but don’t forget the local players who may lack the class but can counter that by the ability to play in the heat and humidity.
We look set for a great Tournament on a stunning golf course. It sounds the perfect week to start golf betting to me!
Back next Tuesday.
