This week the US tour returns to New Orleans for the Zürich classic. At one of the great courses and one of the great tournaments, all in all it’s a very poor field this week. That could be for a variety of reasons many players may feel like they need a break after a very busy spell on the US Tour.
They are of course playing for so much money these days that many of them could have months off rather than weeks off. TPC Louisanna which again hosts this weeks event is a tough track but last year the players took it apart with Billy Horschel winning in an incredible -20.
The organisers will not have liked that and will have toughened up the course for this years event. Justin Rose is clear favourite but you have to say he has not looked himself this season and rumours abound of shoulder problems. Rose thrives on confidence and needs a few good weeks where he doesn’t fall away tamely when in the mix. Until then he is a risky betting proposition.
Next two players are Rickie Fowler and Keegan Bradley who have both had very weak season so far however, Fowler will love this course which really plays to his strengths so could be in for a change of fortunes this week.
This course is all about accurate Iron play as the fairways are fairly easy to hit so we are looking for a player who can attack the flags and give himself many birdie opportunities.
An on form Ricky Fowler certainly fits the bill here. Since having his haircut he no longer looks like the fifth member of the monkeys which has to be a positive as well.
We have four strong bets this week as we look to land this Tournament. It may be for many one of the quieter weeks with a weak field but remember a big priced winner here pays the same as a winner at the Open.
Join us in the deep south, I look forward to seeing you on the fairways.
Back next week.
