Friday was busier than normal as I had my second appearance on RPGTV as a guest tipster. I struggled to get the form card for Sunderland until half way through the day – hence a poor effort there! No excuses at Romford though other than it was a very competitive card.
However I landed my Nap on the show when Drumna Hawk nailed Oakfield Lucy close home. But my free tip and NB Hometown Day couldn’t reel in Droopys Ultana who showed the best pace to the first corner!
Safe to say though I had a blast on the show with Jason and Hobbsy and I’m looking forward to my next appearance. It was great to get inside the Racing Post HQ.
Saturday I had no time for a long lie in as I was local bookmakers bound to cheer on our ante post selections at Crayford where the feature was the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket. Champion trainer Mark Wallis had a great morning at the Kent track winning the Jacket for the first time with Hometown Honey in doing landing our 7/1 voucher. This was preceded by Aayamzamodel winning the Peter Bussey Memorial Trophy and landing my subscribers 11/2 vouchers. A very good morning. I then popped home for a quick bit of lunch before heading off to Wimbledon with Andy & Carpo to watch Marco trial then watched our ante post selections Razldazl Butch and Cornamaddy Jumbo in the Springbok both win their first round heats.
Sunday saw the usual kennel visit – Tom seemed in rude health and I’m looking forward to seeing him run at Romford on Friday. One selection Racecourse Lee was sent to subscribers from Henlow’s card was sent out before I had a spot of Sunday lunch with Mrs D at the excellent White Hart in Roydon washed down with a nice drop of champagne all paid from yesterday’s ante post winnings. Home to watch the Henlow racing but our selection was badly crowded out of the traps early and could only manage 2nd place.
A bit jaded Monday after all my exertions over the weekend – was buoyed by the news Coventry has been reprieved – after it looked on Friday as if it was closing. Watched some replays then checked the Nottingham card but nothing appealed to me. No bets advised.
Again Tuesday was a no bet day. Didn’t go to Romford trials did some homework for next Mondays Monmore Puppy Derby heats covered on the bags. Ante Post selections to sort out once it’s priced up. My ante post record is excellent and I intend to carry that on throughout 2014.
Wednesday saw graded action from Romford & Peterborough that didn’t set my hair on fire! Another no bet day. Had a good look at Hove card and Romford on Friday.
Thursday I made a cardinal error going for my selection at Hove in a maiden race rather than a proven open class dog. I let the trial form and good word from the kennel point me in Buoy Johnny direction. Trials are one thing and races another as he trailed in fourth. You never stop learning in this game, I won’t make the same mistake again.
Friday is here and yet another very competitive Romford card. I think as there are less tracks around therefore less races to place your top dogs, Friday nights races have become mini finals. I’m going to the London Road track tonight to watch my evergreen Head iton Tom who I think has a decent chance. However the free tip from the flying four priced up races which limits my choice somewhat. I liked the way Sharon’s Return went about his business last week and if he comes away in the same manner he can go on to score.
I’m very disappointed with the GBGB who govern our sport that they couldn’t see fit to give Coventry a temporary licence until the suitable checks had been done on the new promoter. They have just put another nail in the coffin of greyhound racing, forcing another track to close. They better watch out as they won’t have a job themselves soon!
