Christmas is almost on upon us and there are two burning questions buzzing around BetFan Towers, have you bought all your presents and what do you fancy for the King George on Boxing Day?
The answer to the first is easy… No! I’m a Xmas Eve 4.30 pm onwards man that tends to concentrate the mind and secondly this is a strange King George where you can fancy about ten of them. We have been spoilt in the last few years with the mighty Kauto Star lighting up our Boxing Days with his annual saunter round Kempton. But he has gone to the dressage game now and we will not see his like again which leaves Long run and his owner/jockey Sam Whaley Cohen at the head of the betting. Waley Cohen is a very nice guy and as his family own the horse unlike others I have no problem at all with him riding the horse I just won’t be backing it. For me he is a terrible jockey and it’s best to sit it out rather than what many do which is back the horse then after watching him struggle round hitting every fence tweet “did u see that he is useless Geraghty should ride it etc………”
It may well win but I doubt it! The horse I would love to see run is Sizing Europe but I gather it’s unlikely he will be coming over from Ireland which is a real shame. Long Run’s trainer Nicky Henderson has a live contender in the Jimmy Nesbitt owned Riverside Theatre but I just think three miles is too far for this horse. The one who looks the standout bet and I wouldn’t put you off having a few quid each way on is Sir Des Champ, second in the Hennessey he looks made for the race to me and will try and make all which is a good tactic in this race.
At 10/1 he could be a very nice late pressie, have a great Christmas and who knows I may see you at 4.30 Xmas Eve!
Back next Thursday.
