Two good meetings today at Musselburgh and Towcester as the jumps season continues. It really feels too cold and wet for the flat boys now doesn’t it. My Power Naps members fresh off a nice winning Max bet at Chepstow yesterday are off to Towcester today for their bet so for the column I thought I would take a look at a race at Musselburgh.
It’s the 2.30 the Beginners Chase and we have a very short price favourite in the form of the Venetia Williams trained Mentalist. Venetia doesn’t send many this far North so she must think this has a huge chance of landing the spoils and the horse jumped well in the main when making his debut beaten less than two lengths by the useful Balbriggan. Another horse running who was second last time out is the Ferdy Murphy trained Angel Son and this is another type who will win races this term. The horse I think is worth taking them all on with though is making his debut over fences and is the James Ewart trained Civil Unrest. This horse was a useful hurdler but was always going to make a chaser. From what I hear he has schooled well and is ready to rumble. At 9/2 with Skybet he rates a cracking value selection against the short priced fave.
