It’s July Cup week at last, one of the great Summer Jamborees of the year though as I look out of my hotel window it looks more like mid winter. Heavy rain will surely get into the ground though that won’t stop three days of top class action from the HQ of flat racing.
The July course has a special buzz that you don’t find on any other track and is filled with genuine flat racing enthusiasts as opposed to the latest stag and hen parties or those there to watch Madness perform after racing for the 8th time.
John Gosden appears to be heading for another trainers title and he has assembled a mighty team to target this week, watch his runners very closely. If he cleans up here he could put some daylight between him and the chasing pack. Another Trainer heading here in form is Mark Johnstone and pay attention to his runners in the handicaps.
Lets see if we can kick us off with a winner at a big price in the 1.40 the opener. Here I like Vent de Force with that man Ryan Moore aboard. I think many here will struggle to get this trip but this horse will relish it and every bit of rain that falls will only increase his chance. The yard were shrewdly placed at the front of the queue when shrewd cookies were handed out and they will know what they have to do i.e. force the pace. Take the 12/1 with boylesports as they are going 1/4 odds!
Back next Thursday.
