I had the pleasure of Andy Bell and The Gambling Don’s company yesterday at Doncaster although it was at different stages of the afternoon as rather like two boxers before a prizefight they were keen to avoid one another.
TGD seemed glued to the pre parade ring and the paddock whilst Bell stalked the betting ring like a tiger toying with its prey before swooping for the kill.
Their Cheltenham battle will be in my opinion one of the biggest gambling challenges in recent history and I’m thrilled that we at BetFan are bringing it to you. Over four days there can be no fluking a win and good luck and bad luck should even out, Bell is in the form of his life yet the Don brings pedigree and class to the punting table. Who do I think will win, I really don’t know but like the rest of you I’m dying to follow it and if the Festival wasn’t exciting enough this puts the cherry on the top.
I watched the first race with Andy and lets say we struggled to chat as next to us was perhaps the loudest man currently in the UK. It turns out he was the owner of Kim Bailey’s Un Ace and was dressed in a suit that proved conclusively he was a huge fan of Rupert the Bear. Now when one of my horses runs I have been known to offer some vocal support but it’s usually reserved for the closing stages. This guy from the start was offering generous support laced with expletives that would have shocked Liam Gallagher. The horse won thank God or I fear he may have jumped off the stand. He then went to greet the horse and rider and we could still here his voice from the top balcony of the stand when he got to the paddock. Believe me it’s a very big stand at Doncaster.
I spoke with Trainer Kim Bailey later and he told me Un Ace will be much better on Spring ground! Well he looked pretty good on bad Winter ground so I suggest we all stick him in our notebooks and if you are there when he runs, take some ear plugs. Kim reports Stable Line Golds old friend Harry Topper in good form ahead of his Gold Cup tilt but reiterated that he wants it heavy so hold those Anteposts and lets see what the day brings. It’s great to see Kim back with a potential star as the guy is a class act.
I will be building towards Cheltenham where Stable Line Gold will be giving its subscribers at least four big gambles each and every day and look out for the Cheltenham snippets and offers through this column and on BetFan.com/tv. Who knows who you will catch me on the phone to as the cameras shine a light on the secretive ports betting lair that is BetFan Towers.
I thank Howard for his kind words regarding the TV Channel and would like to take him up on his hairdressing offer. That’s one Cheltenham highlights offer I would be crazy to miss. You will have to watch to find out what’s coming next but it will be informative and fun we can promise you that. We are the single biggest threat to Bookmakers profits so you always listen to what we have to say!
Today I will be watching racing from the comfort of BetFan Towers where unlike yesterday I can control the volume.
The Don and Andy Bell are both off to Huntingdon which is a smaller track so less easy to avoid people. Be nice to each other boys you have a very busy month coming up!
Back next Thursday.
