The Gambling Don

July 13, 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

Its been a miserable week here in Newmarket where our big Festival week was ruined by horrible weather making the ground very heavy and more akin to the jumps game. I’ve never seen racing at the July course where horses walked over the line exhausted or where they actually didn’t finish. No ones fault but as a spectacle it was as ghastly as one of Simon Holden’s suits, yes that bad!

For the first time ever I didn’t bet on the Saturday owing to the conditions but the bets placed up at York were out of luck. I used to love attending the John Smiths day but the bright sparks who run racing have decided it must clash now as they have moved July Cup day to the Saturday when it was perfectly fine and had a huge attendance midweek. We today after a feast of racing yesterday and Friday including an excellent meeting at Chester which was barely mentioned have three Summer Jumps meetings on a Sunday in July. If the sport cannot see how foolish this looks then they are even more misguided than they appear.

We have had a fantastic year on the private service but we have hit a quiet spell despite a big winner on Friday. This is where my long term members dig in and trust in the Don and I can assure them as always that will be rewarded. In this game you have weigh every single bet on its merits and ask is it worthy of an investment and is the price bigger than it should be. That’s the way I bet always have and always will and that process is the same when I’ve had five winners in a row or five losers. And as a member you must view the bigger picture at all times and that’s whatever advisor you follow be it Andy Bell Racing or one of the good ones.

Right sermon over (it is Sunday after all) lets find you a JUMPS winner as the Don dusts off his jumps form book. In the 4.05 at Perth Lucinda Russell runs Imjoeking who was a real talking horse before his debut. It’s easy to see why as he looks the part but in truth he struggled over fences to begin with. It was obvious intensive schooling has gone on because he looked superb last time out at Hexham. He looks a very well handicapped horse and they will be looking to plunder a few Summer handicaps I’m sure. He has a good young claimer on today and at 9/4 with Paddy Power he rates a bet.

Have a great Sunday hopefully helped by Imjoeking and I understand there is a football match on later?

Trust in the Don over 1100 points profit shows it’s not been a bad strategy so far!

Back next Sunday.
