The Ladbroke Handicap hurdle takes place today and is a real poser on heavy ground at Ascot. Firstly thank God it’s on given the amount of rain we have had but it will be seriously testing and this two mile handicap hurdle will be all about stamina this year not speed.
Nicky Henderson saddles no less than four runners and will be hoping to add this race to his tally of big race wins. The news earlier this week that Big Bucks and Al Ferof are out for the season must surely have meant that Paul Nicholls cannot stop Henderson from winning the battle for champion trainer. Winning today’s big pot will help Henderson do that but I have a feeling that today’s prize will be going back over the Irish Sea and the horse I am tipping to land the spoils is the Tony Martin trained Thomas Edison.
Thomas Edison relishes soft ground and was second last time out in Ireland on good to soft where he was outpaced by the winner on the ground. That was an ideal tune-up for this race and it is massively significant that connections send him over. There is massive stable confidence behind this horse so take the 33/1 each way with bet365.
Its been a fabulous week for my private members who yesterday got stuck into Farmer Matt at 9/2 to see him win at 9/4 having been smashed up into favouritism. If you want to be on the top horses at the top prices then make TGD your first port of call in 2013. Have as great Xmas!
Back next Saturday.
