I had a great response to last week’s Breeders Cup preview, although got a few queries about the ‘Beyer’ figure. Andy Beyer is an American bettor & journalist who in the 1970s developed his own speed figures which gave him a massive advantage against other less well informed handicappers, his method for doing this has now become common practice & became known as the Beyer Speed Figure.
Speed handicapping has also become common in the UK but with each course configured differently here I don’t find them as reliable as the US where the tracks are almost identical, where form & ratings can be reliably transferred between tracks.
Last week I reviewed all the Breeders Cup races in chronological order & gave you my methods for selecting the winner of each race, the final entries are announced later today when the crucial post positions will be known so I can’t give you individual selections for each race until then. But it’s not just about backing a couple of winners & winning a few quid, that’s too easy, this is your opportunity to win BIG by playing the US tote ‘pari-mutuel’ pools. Several bookmarkers such as Totepool & exchanges like Betfair allow us to bet into these.
There are a multitude of what’s called ‘exotic’ wagers but I concentrate on the Pick 3, 4, 5 & 6s, where you are required to select the winners of consecutive races. The Pick 3 is a great introduction & with fairly few multi-permed entries I’m sure you’ll get this up frequently & can be quite rewarding if a fancied favourite gets beat. The Pick 6 is only offered once a day and is similar to our Scoop6, it is difficult to win it as an individual player so might be worth forming a small syndicate with your friends & having a go.
Mainly my bets of the meeting are the Pick 4s, harder than the Pick 3 but a lot easier than the Pick 6! This year the Friday’s late Pick 4 (races 6-9) will have a guaranteed pool of $1,500,000. On Saturday, there will be two guaranteed Pick 4s. The early all Championships Pick 4 (races 4-7) will have a $1,500,000 guaranteed gross pool and the late all Championships Pick 4 (races 9-12) will have a $3,000,000 million gross pool. I would strongly recommend you play most of your Breeders Cup betting bank on these 3 Pick’s 4. Last year I managed to get the Friday Pick 4 & got paid $29,725 for a fifty cent wager, now you know why I love the Breeders Cup & why most so called UK betting experts are foolish to dismiss it!
