We made a great start to last week’s betting, our free tip PENHILL bolted up, service subscribers got 7/2 early, I believe it was 11/4 when the newsletter was sent but still a nice winner, it was turned out again quickly on Saturday, I didn’t want to go to the funeral after the wedding but it won even easier, not one to oppose.
A quiet couple of days after until Hamilton’s richest card of the year the ‘Fair’ Friday evening meeting.
Did you know this was the first ever evening race meeting held in the UK on 18 July 1947! A good quiz question.
My main bet was BLAINE, this horse had won the Gimcrack at York 2 years ago but been out of form since until it’s last couple of outings, I couldn’t believe the early price of 16/1 and with Ladbrokes! Boots were filled.
Was going to go in again on track but the odds had tumbled to 6s at the off. Amy Ryan gave it a great ride and was never headed; our biggest punt of the year landed.
I was still buzzing on Saturday and with confidence surging was desperate to have a few bets but with the apocalyptic weather forecast decided just to have one bet on a horse called CLOUD LINE who ran well but finished second, his turn will come and although six lengths back in third PURPLE LANE caught my eye and one for the hotlist. The last race on the Newmarket card was won by WINTER THUNDER and I’ve not seen a more impressive handicap winner all year.
Another four horses from last week were also added to the ‘hotlist’: NABATEAN, OASIS FANTASY, HIGH CHURCH, LORD BEN STACK.
Windsor on a Monday night is not my favourite betting medium but fancied a couple. Ryan Moore has been riding well and thought Mission Approve was a decent bet at 9/4, others thought so as well and was backed as if defeat was out the question down to 6/5 but was well beat, I thought, that’s it no more Windsor Monday night’s for me but we still had SLEEPER running in the last, again Ladbrokes went biggest early at 11s, what a mistake as it bolted in, I love Windsor!
Fellow columnist’s Simon Holden has christened me The Tartan Tipster and Andy Bell call’s me Jimmy broooooown, we’ll let them have their fun but nobody knows Scottish Racing better than me and I’m off to Musselburgh today. Two of the horses I part own are running but are badly drawn, at Musselburgh it’s a massive advantage over 5 furlongs to be drawn high up against the stands rail as long as you’re a front runner. The seven furlongs course on the round track is even more biased this time to low drawn front runners. The race I’m concentrating on is the 5:00 and I’m hoping the top weight and best horse in the race SHAMAHEART can get to the front from stall 5, if he does he shouldn’t be headed and he is our free tip today. Only a few bookies have priced this up as I write but at 6/1 with both Paddy Power and Ladbrokes is a good value bet.
Until next Tuesday, Happy Punting!
Jimmy
