US Masters Progress

April 11, 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

Nick Faldo was the last player to win the US Masters in two successive years but Adam Scott is in fine shape to do just that and he is the new favourite after the first round on Thursday. Rory McIlroy made a solid start and looks perfectly poised to get into contention over the weekend which could see a showdown with himself and the 2013 champion.

Followers of OnParProfits are in decent shape especially those subscribers who followed our ante-post advice to back Jimmy Walker at 100/1 in January. The Augusta debutant is two shots behind the overnight leader Bill Haas as he tries to become the first player to win in his first Masters since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.

With Walker and McIlroy right in the mix we have to accept not all our picks will figures at the business end of the first major of the season. The Johnsons of Zach and Dustin let us down badly and now making the cut becomes their main objective today. Graham Delaet and Luke Donald are also struggling to play over the weekend.

At 2 over and 6 back Sergio Garcia cannot be dismissed but ultimately this was a disappointing first round. At even par with two holes to pay it was relatively job well done but two late bogeys really spoiled his day and now he also needs to go under par today to get back into the mix.

If Adam Scot wins the Masters again he will overhaul Tiger Woods at the top of the world rankings. However, a more likely scenario is him presenting McIlroy with the Green Jacket on Sunday afternoon. If that is the case McIlroy will be three quarters of the way to a career Grand Slam with only the British Open then required to complete the set.
