The Tiger returned in style and as I’ve had a pop at him recently I’d better eat a large slice of the humble and say he was impressive. We placed with Graham Macdowell on the private service and though he fell away he was the only one who served it up to the Tiger. The stats show that Woods putted as well as he has ever done since turning pro, considering all the Tournaments he has won that’s quite a stat.
Was it a blip or is the great man back to his best just a month before the Masters? Well the jury is out, the wind which is usually a factor was non existent and the rough was cut very low last week which he won’t always get.
It was good to see Mickelson play so well with him and Woods playing superb golf it was like we had gone back ten years in time and those two and Steve Stricker certainly showed the value of experience. Westwood was a sorry sight, he said he moved to Florida to improve his short game well if this week was anything to go by I think he must be being coached by Donald Duck. When he gets on the green it’s almost painful to watch and if he doesn’t improve significantly in the next month he has as much chance of winning the Masters as Monty has of being hired by slimming world to advertise their products.
This week the Florida swing continues with the Tampa Bay Championship at the beautiful Copperhead course. This is a very different test to the last couple of weeks as it’s an old fashioned parkland course. Luke Donald is the defending champ and he like Westwood was shockingly bad last week. In the past Donald has swung back into form quickly though he will need to to win here. This course is about course management not power which is why it should suit the likes of Donald and Furyk. The unique Golf Bet Profits ratings have been hitting the crossbar in the last couple of weeks so one is due to drop in any time now.
