Really looking forward to this seasons racing festival from Cheltenham. Racing fans have been starved of quality racing due to the adverse weather conditions which has battered the british countryside.
Waterlogged courses, freezing temperatures, snow – Trainers everywhere, especially those who train good ground performers, have simply not been able to get a run for them. If they have got a run for these horses, it was more a case of just getting them exercise So, will the form stand up at the festival from what we have seen so far this current campaign?
THE BLUE RIBBON – CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP
Maybe I’m wrong but cheltenham has never favoured Long Run. The horse clearly runs best on a flat track like Kempton where the horses form is 3 wins from 4 runs! Then you look at Cheltenham with 4 runs and just the one win. Although he won this years renewal of the King George, it was not the strongest King George we’ve ever seen.
The runner who was decent in his day is Captain Chris, but he’s not a proven Grade 1 winner. Bobs Worth, winner of the Hennessy earlier in the year beating Tidal Bay by 3 1/4L, receives 6lb. He is unbeaten at the track and has recorded 4 wins from 4 starts, a 100% record!
I believe connections would have liked to have got another run into the selection before the big day because he will have an absence of 14 weeks to overcome. But, at this stage, I am praying the weather brightens up and we start to get some good racing ground. If that’s the case then I will be backing IMPERIAL COMMANDER, winner of the race back in 2011 beating Denman by a mighty impressive 7L. Unfortunately injuries have kept Imperial Commander off the track. When making a seasonal debut after almost 2 years off the track he jumped with real zest and enthusiasm, looking a bit fresh in the prelims and a bit wooly in his coat. That race would have blown away all the cobwebs and if feeling no ill effects, i.e. bounce factor, he could be a real threat. According to the trainer he came out of the race eating up well and has since schooled very well indeed. Ladbrokes have taken a big chance as they offer 20/1, 1/4 ODDS 1.2.3 PLACES – E/W.
SUPREME NOVICE HURDLE
UN ATOUT, remember this name because this will be the winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in next three to four years. He has been mighty impressive this season, recording facile victories in 3 races to date. Remember, before the season started Davey Russell said this was a serious tool. I have watched the races and have been very impressed by the manor of his victories. Connections believe he will be even better on good racing ground. Making his debut in an NH Bumper race and winning with his head buried in his chest by an impressive 24L. That was followed with a Maiden Hurdle victory, coasting home by a hard held 4L. Then he went for a Novice Hurdle, slamming Rory O’Moore by 20L and never coming off the bridal.
I know many peoples idea of the winner will be My Tent Or Yours, who is a very exciting recruit to the jumps game. But, at the odds I must favour Un Atout to remain unbeaten at rewarding odds of 9/1 with PADDY POWER.
These are just 2 runners I’ve backed at prices I believe represent good value.
